I'm looking for a litle help with a purchase I just made today. I would be interested to find out if this a forged blade. I've included pics of the tang, I would be very interested in knowing what the signature says. I've also included a pic of what I believe is a tan stamp, which I'm unable to identify. I've included a pic of the end of the tang which is strange to me, but not sure with my limited knowledge if it is strange. I've also included pics of the little collar piece off of the scabbard, I'm wondering if anyone has seen marking similar to this. I'm also interested in locating some parts for this scabbard, I believe it is a field scabbard and it uses friction retension and is missing the hangar, leather cover and possibly a collar piece. I would interested to find out if there is someone out there that makes reproductions of these parts? Thanks in advance for any help.

Good morning David P & Chris,

The "collar" in your images looks to be formed from a thin piece of "retrieved" metal cut from a larger sheet such as a tinned box or can.

Note the burrs where a file has been passed across to even the marks left by tin snips or similar.

Also the braze point where the metal has been joined.

I suggest the polychrome markings relate to the previous use and as such are interesting as an example of "make do and mend".

Cheers
