Hello everyone,
I found this tsuba on an auction site, and I've been wondering if that is tekkotsu on the mimi (not quite sure on the surface)? Also, what could be the age, style, and school of this tsuba? There appears to be mei, but I'm not sure if its readable.
Appreciate any replies.
Thanks,
Aldwin
Hello John L.,
Thanks so much for your reply, that was very informative.
I read about these shiiremono makers producing copies of Soten work, but never seen an example until this one. Once again, thanks.
Best regards,
Aldwin
I saw this on an auction site, and I've been wondering if this is a Soten? I can't read the mei so I really can't tell. Could you also please tell if it is real? Measures 77mm x 71mm. Also, there seems to be recent file marks in the nakago-ana... what does this indicate aside from widening it?
Thanks,
Aldwin
I found this on eBay:

I'm not sure what the signature reads but I think I have a very slight idea. Could this be an imitation with a false signature?
I've been wondering if these two are modern repros or not? Seems to be repros...

Can you please share your professional opinions on these two?
Thanks!
Thanks for the additional replies.
John, I really can't tell if the face of the lower figure is inlaid in silver as I don't own this tsuba yet. I am just planning on buying it or rather win it in an auction. But if the face of the lower figure is indeed inlaid in silver, will there be any difference being a late copy? I'm not really sure how much this tsuba is worth, but I'm making sure it would be worth the money I'll be paying for it.
Thanks.
Thanks Piers. The reason I thought the animal in this tsuba is a Baku is because of this page:
http://www.ksky.ne.jp/~sumie99/fittings45.html
For this tsuba, how can you tell if it's genuine or a cast/reproduction? Sorry, I don't have the eye to tell the difference yet.
Thanks!
I'm not sure what the animal on this tsuba is, but it looks like a Baku, the Eater of Nightmares?
Also, is this a genuine tsuba? What does the signature reads?
Thanks!
Hello Dirk,
Thanks for the reply and for sharing that site. They offer a better price for their service than Rinkya. I hope to use them in the future.
I'm not really looking for some high end stuff at Yahoo Japan, just some good looking ones for a reasonable price.
Thanks again!
Hello everyone!
I just wanted to know if anyone here has tried bidding on Yahoo Japan through Rinkya? YJ sellers have some nice blades and fittings up for auction, but I can't read the Japanese characters so I use the translation service and bidding service offered by Rinkya. If anyone has tried bidding on Yahoo Japan or using Rinkya, any inputs are highly appreciated.
Thanks!
