  6. When you go to shinsa, do they only look at the blade or do they look at the fittings also?
  7. Thank you for the insight!
  8. Any help translating this would be great!
  9. I don't see on that website where I can have register for shinsa...On the website I posted what should I choose for registering for shinsa?? I am lost, but I am GOING to go to this show!!!

  11. Is this the right website? http://www.toryu-mon.com/Toryu-Mon/NTHK_Shinsa_Registration.html
  12. I am located in Jacksonville, FL. I really want to make sure this sword is worth restoring, so any help or suggestion would be great
  13. The quotes in the thread are his exact words. He think the signature is not authentic. I got his name from someone on this board or the other, I can't remember which one, but his work looks very good. If anyone has anyone else they can suggest in the United States I would appreciate the information. ETA: Yes it is in army mounts, all pictures are of the same sword and mounts
  14. Hey guys, I had posted about this back in 2009, but I have had another gentlemen look at pictures of the sword and thinks it maybe a fake. Can you all take a look at this cross post and tell me what you think? I appreciate everyone's time! http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1258366_Grandfather_s_WWII_Bring_Back_Sword_Revisited__56k_death.html

  16. When I look at the tsuba it seems like more and more gold is showing through after I rubbed it with some mineral oil...
  17. When I search wiki ( I know not very scientific) they seem to look very similiar
  18. A guy on AR15 translated the HORIMONO as: The four character one as: the first character is a Buddhist symbol, and the next 4 characters states the word "Marishi-ten" which means the goddess of heaven, goddess of light. Three character as:the first character is a Buddhist symbol, the second character is the number "eight", and the third character means "banner". "Eight Banner" or "Hachiman" which is the God of war, and protector of the Japanese people.
  19. I was looking at the Hamon a little closer and it had a very slight wave. My question is...Does the shape of the hamon have any effect on the value or quality of the sword?
  20. what does the part you translated say?
  21. Ok, that's exactly what I did per someone else telling me to. To what Grey said, I mean I can see buying all those ceremonial cleaning products if the blade is polished and all but are they gonna serve me any better then using mineral oil ( I hear also heard use a hint of clove oil like a 9:1 ratio)
  22. What should I do to arrest any rust on the blade?
  23. I definitely want to get the blade re-polished and tip fixed...I'm gonna see my grandfather on the 24th of Dec. and am very excited to tell him what he (recovered from a Korean soldier) Any leads to a "good" polisher would be appreciated Edited by Admin to be more sensitive
