  1. After a fine pub lunch with friends, four swords turned up :D All military mounted and have just looke at the first, seems Koto, polished with chrome cleaner but has a combat cover with clip over section. Underneath is the two hand written script, certainly by the surrender officer, any help with the translation would be most appreciated. Thanks folks Roy

    Kabuto to date

Have had three like this, not uncommon I think (Toppai style??) and in the ranks of Hinano/Zunari as far as quality is concerned.
  3. Thank you Malcolm, now go back into your vault and await the more obscure questions. PS Is it ever big enough?

    Wow

Had a chat with Tsruta san,he is convinced that this is not Gendai{Int} but older???
  5. Just a short note Have been here for a while, added nothing much except the Sak'e episode ....but while we are acknowledging people I would add this. The two Japanese members with out whom we would be lost on many translations, to a chap I suspect lives in a vault in the city Of Bath who has a vast range of knowledge on all subjects Japanese, the man in the channel Islands who sits on a mound of Tsuba & the list goes on...Thanks chaps. For advice on Food goto Jean,Antacid goto Chris & dont mention private jets to Brian. And the chap who's threads attract the most views...oh,that would be me Thanks NMB, it has been fun Roy

    Wow

Have to say that in the past I had two Showa period Somen which were spectacular, shinto or koto Somen would have been un affordable for most folk,me included. Agree that those "mon" were pretty lousy and wonder why the maker did that as the rest from the pic's make it seem decent work. Thanks for the feedback, but as a fun item and at that price it would have been ok to have, well why not?. Assume the one at Bonhams was signed.

    Wow

Seldom recently have I seen something that I would like to own, a friend sent me this from the AOI web site and have to say I like it a great deal. Looks fairly modern??.........Some Hair under the nose perhaps???....just checked and it is sold,am relieved
  8. Perhaps a chapter from the Genji monogatari ??? Have seen this often and are mistaken for Mon and other.
  9. Brian Must meet you one day.... What the hell are you asking///////// Roy
  10. Thanks again Moriyama San Oh dear...Kore!! Consolation is the Bable fish had this.....Positive sources of Mr. Yoshiyuki made
  11. I have this mei which am pretty sure reads, Minamoto Masa Uji...then the forth character seems either to be Tsugu or Fusa which makes no sense. final being Tsukuru. Have back checked and cannot find a Masa Uji signing in this fashion,am very rusty now at trasnslations, have I gone astray here?. Thanks in advance
  12. Morita san & Malcolm That is splendid stuff, thank you for your efforts. Regards Roy
  13. Go your own way Brian, after all it is just a hobby.
  14. Hallo Chip old chap Thanks for that,we have the building blocks of a Watergate scenario,I also noticed that a "For Sale" insert offering the members some Japanese prints & Old photographs dirt cheap for charity also vanished........ ..... Avatar changed just to monitor this PS. Jean, you were right
  15. Was a comment on the first paragraph of my initial comment deleted or did I imagine it?.
  16. Also Roy, have you tried a magnet on the warabi? Just curious Cheers Yes Malcolm,it is attracted but not strongly. More rust than metal I suspect. The thoughts on this would seem to be about right,made/assembled in a workshop,Meiji period. Would have been nice to have had a name but I suppose it would have been impossible to find the man. Thanks all
  17. Now here is the thing,we non jet owners probably would not know how to spell Lear,(thought that a lascivious smirk).......or,some play ?.
  18. Seems that degrees of misunderstood humour during the thread and some "snappy" comments are amusing but we must be careful that as on occasions in the past we dont drive folk away. It all good stuff and even the old members learn something new from the comments on this site, yes contribute if you feel you have benefitted, does not have to be a huge amount but does show the value of being able to access such a huge range of knowledge & witty comment { }. Welcome to the Good,Bad and .............. Remember that Brians Lea Jet is only ever used for trips to Monaco, so does not need fuel every week Roy
  19. Thanks Henry, was an off chance as it will be some obscure artist working early 20th century. Cheers Roy
