    Gentlemen: Any assistance translating the nakago is appreciated. I have tried, but could not get anywhere with these scripted Kanji Symbols. Please help with a translation of the gold inscription on the nakago of this sword, no other marks are present on the nakago. The koshirae is early Shin-Gunto, leather over metal saya, with a pierced tsuba, and two piece silver foil habaki. The sword is suriage with one mekugi-ana. the cutting edge is 26 3/8 inches with a sori of 3/4 inch. Thanks Edward G

    Thanks for the comment Hoanh. Certainly this is a possibility, I plan to Shinsa it next year, but wanted some current opinions on it now. I do not have much experience with kakitoshi-hi on swords, other than almost all I have encountered were dated somewhere in the Koto period. It is difficult to photograph all the activity in the hamon, however, I can see quite a bit of ashi in this area. I also understand that many old sword styles were duplicated as a revival in the Shinto Period. Edward G.

    Additional measurements are as follows: Nakago is 6 1/16" Width at Ha-Machi is 1 1/8" Kissaki is 1 1/4" length width@ yokote is 3/4" sori is 1/2" Thanks Edward G

    A recent addition, please give your thoughts and opinions on this wakizashi.. The nagasa is 20 3/4", mumei, relatively good polish. with a kakitoshi-hi, or groove which extends all the way through the nakagojiri. Any thoughts are appreciated. I am interested to know any opinions, but also to what old sword period this sword would originate. I am thinking possibly Nambochuo rather than Muromachi. Thanks Edward G.

    Good day all: I am in search of translation of a tang which previously was posted on the old board and did not transfer over to this one. Previously, Chris Bowen was kind enough to give some information on the sword. Thank You Chris! The ura says "made to the order of Mr.Nishiura" and the maker's name is Katsunaga. Any further translation or additional information on the maker would be appreciated. Edward G

    Any opinions are welcomed. The attached photos are of a 1944 pattern sword. The portions I can interpret are Seki-Ju-???-Bishu-Kane-???. The sword has Bohi and long kissaki. I realize the last character is incomplete. However, I am hoping the rest of the signature will lead me to the correct smith. Any thoughts opinions be appreciated. Edward G.

    I have never seen this configuration for a yari, it is like a spear point identical on both sides, and NOT flat on one side. Perhaps used for hunting rather than war?     Please give me your thoughts on the Yari Mei. It looks like a date and maker mixed together. The blade is 3 1/2" and the same shape on each side. I am looking at a maker of Kami KuniToshi or Kami KuniYoshi? The date is also hard to translate I am guessing Taiei (1521) or Daji (1126). Any translation information help would be appreciated.     I would like any opinions if the signature is shoshin or gimei and which generation? I am posting these pictures for a friend. Hawleys list 2 generations in this time period. The sword appears to be signed TsunaToshi and dated 1832 Any thoughts or opinions are always welcomed. Edward G

    Need Help with some characters in Mei. I can't read all of it. I think it is Noshu Kane Nao but need help on the two characters above and below the character JU. Any assistance would be appreciated. Getting better at this, but not an expert by any means! Thanks in advance. Edward G
