  1. Hi Jean, I did not see it as a problem till you pointed it out. I posted it Not to go over the 2 papers issue, but to get some thoughts as to which way some of the guys would go to me it just had more of a Aoe something but could not define why.I know there are at times swords that are hard to pin down and speaking about them helps my woeful Kantei skills but if you think better not, I can understand why
  2. Hi guys I would be interested what some of the guys think ? Ichimonji or Aoe. https://www.aoi-art.com/auction/en/auct ... 1213703271
  3. Hi Clive, Great work you made my day :D and as we have spoken before about the first generation Hizen Tadakuni, and that I like his work. and also that he signed Hizen Jyu Harima no Kami Fujiwara Tadakuni but you don't see it as much also you are spot on he could be completely different and at times flamboyant have a look at this one again its a Tight strong Ko-itame hada, with ji-nie in jigane in a Gunome-choji,Hamon. from the Kanbun era AD1663
  4. Hi,Nobody thank you for the link on manchuria railway swords, Melissa, also thanks did not know they are using it on engines,I had the thought if it can see deep and if the force lines go in one direction it may be able to see the Steel construction and if its kobuse or three layers construction for instance. It seems that it does have a use in swords.
  5. Hi Ken, The only reason it had me interested was it was in a peace on polishing/restoration but did not go in to much detail. So you are probably right not much use at the moment unless its something special. But its worth keeping eye out for technology that can help us make better decisions. thanks
  6. Ken, 9k is not that bad if you are a polisher or offering this as a service (just gos to show you can get just about anything on eBay ) but would like to see if this is a working method for checking a blade before you put out that amount of cash. Now you would think if it was a good method we would have heard of it before now as this came from a old JSS Newsletter, but you will never know if you don't ask. Maybe someone on the board may get a chance to give this a go.
  7. Hi Ken, So its big bucks to set up ? this was interesting as it was thought to pick up flaws below the skin. Now if I was going to get a sword polished it would be good to know what going below the skin so excuse my lack of knowledge on this is it not possible to use a strong electromagnet and make some sort of home version of this just a passing thought ?
  8. Hi Brent, I also need the 2010 one if someone can PM a copy would be much appreciated thanks,
  9. Hi all, I was looking at an old copy of JSS Newsletter and came across this. is this useful for flaws and has someone seen this work ? thanks
  10. HI Simon. If you have a chance to post the Sori/Boshi would like to see it the photo is fine .
  11. Hi Jay,If the mei is right this is a 1st gen or 2st gen Hizen Tadakuni only first and second used Harima no Kami Fujiwara Tadakuni, the first in later works Do you have pics of the blade ?
  12. Hi Curran,at first thought ShinShinto but just said koto in hand so I think you are right,Late muromachi or even early Momoyama and your remark (the nie look as if they are being blown by a wind over the hills of the hamon into the drifts behind.) is very close to what I was seeing it just came alive in the right light you put it just right you do have a way with words :D it belongs to a good friend. Hi Jacques, just to confirm, will the origami always state if its a naginata naoshi ? and not just say a wakizashi, thanks :D
  13. Hi Guys, A photo of the testing
  14. Hi Jeff, No problem, PM,me and I will send it to you . Adam,I will try to get the video up as it has some shots of the sword and a interesting story on the next sword that Gordon spoke about it was made by a Tokugawa doctor and part time smith from the edo period who bled to death after having his hand cut off in a fight in a toilet, but so did the other guy also from loss of a hand OK Jeff, and the OZ members, done. I have put a link up in the The Izakaya (Members Area)
  15. Hi Jeff,Thanks for the info, its one that was a bit unusual I will keep a lookout for the nihonto zuikan pages. I have some video of the blade as part of the best of shinsa but its not great so when Gordon was using nihonto zuikan it then had me interested, in what he was seeing in the book.
  16. Hi Guys Thanks for the thoughts, Adam the nakago is what got me thinking maybe koto. I did not take more photos but will soon. I don't have Hawley, I had not considered Shinto, only Muromachi, ShinShinto its a bit perplexing that no time or date is specified how common is it to not list a time ? So not much info from the paper it seems. Well if its ShinShinto , its not to hard only one
  17. Thanks Piers, I will post some photos as no age or date suggested.I think its koto ? no Shinshinto smith listed ? Is it common the paper itself is not signed by someone.
  18. Hi guys, Would someone be Kind enough to translate this paper, have been told the smiths name is Kaneharu. date ? Thanks,
  19. Jean,Ted,Mark, thank you guys
