  1. I have a sword by Echizen no kami Sukehiro that I posted on the Nihonto forum. I inherited it from my grandfather and it needs to be polished. There are finger and palm prints that are lightly rusted into the blade and I would really like to find someone to work on it. Is the person you used available for other work or did he do this for you as a favor? I am completely new to Nihonto but I would like to have this sword and another I have which was made by a smith named Nagamitsu polished and cleaned up. Do you have contact info you could share with me so I could find out cost and availability? I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks. John P.
  2. I am posting more pictures of the blade with some measurements. Thanks for the advice about protecting the tip in the scabbard. I will make a handle to keep it at the proper depth ASAP.
  3. Hopefully these are better. The writing is hard to see. Do you know where I can find someone to make a handle and the proper fittings for this smith? I would like to restore the sword to original condition if possible. Also is there a way to get the blade polished without damaging it or it's value?
  4. I hate to highlight my lack of experience, but where exactly is the Mei? I will post pics of it, I just don't know what it is. Thanks
  5. I am trying to gain information about a sword I inherited from my grandfather. I posted here before and learned one of his swords was a Nagamitsu blade and this one I have been told was by Echizen no kami Sukehiro possibly. This sword needs to be polished but I know better than to attempt it myself. The sharpness of the blade is amazing. It is missing the handle and all of the associated hardware but the sheath is complete and in pretty good condition. I do not have a good grasp of the proper terminology for these weapons but I can say they are amazing in there craftsmanship. I would like to know if this is a fake signature if possible, and any info on it's age, maker and use. I would also like to know a value as I intend to add it to my insurance. The value will not be used to sell the sword as I was very close to my grandfather and will keep both the Nagamitsu and this sword to pass on to my son one day. Thanks for any help you can give. 6. Thanks to all the members who have helped me with my first post. I have another sword that I would like to learn more about. This one is very small and appears to be more of a ceremonial type than my other sword. Can anyone tell me what it is and it's use? I have attached several pictures. John P.
  7. I am adding some pics of the blade. Thanks for your help. I have really become interested in the Japanese sword world. It's easy to see this sword being the start of an addiction. I hope to have the handle wrapped and repaired. I will be researching more and trying hard to learn the proper names for the sword parts. The pride and craftsmanship that was done on the blade is evident even to someone like me who is a true newbie. It is sharper than anything I have ever held and the polish on it is amazing. The blade has no rust or pitting but does have several nicks in it. I feel it could be sharpened enough to buff out the nicks but I am not going to do anything with it until I have a good deal more knowledge of the blade.
  8. I have inherited a Japanese sword from my grandfather and when posting on another forum I was told it is a handmade Japanese officers sword. There was some basic info provided but I would like to learn more history of the sword. The maker was said to be very well known and the blade is in excellent shape. The handle is not complete and needs to be rewrapped. Any help on it's history and worth will only be used for my knowledge. I do not plan on selling it as it is part of my family history. Thanks for any help you can give. The sword was acquired when he was stationed in Kyoto after the war.
