Wow thanks so much for the information. So does it look like it was a military issue? I have been researching those online and haven't seen one that looks like this one. I was not sure if the name on the tag was the person who made it and was selling it at a market or something but with you all saying it has an address on it as well that makes me second guess that. Anyone have thoughts on if this is handmade or any idea when it would have been made?

Hi. I would like some help identifying this katana and determining around when it was made and if it was handmade. I received this from an elderly lady who said her husband was an audience pilot in WW2 and he got it in Japan. Here are some pics. Would love any insight anyone has.
