  4. Hello All this is the link to download the Art of the Samurai book. This is publicly available also https://www.metmuseum.org/met-publications/art-of-the-samurai-Japanese-arms-and-armor-1156-1868 Download link: https://we.tl/t-sTi9gGRpAX
  5. This is true, I will be sharing larger libraries of Juyo Zufu but those will be all in Japanese so I wanted to get the ones with English translations out there first. The others will be bulk and made available through a link.

  8. Thank you @Markus much appreciated. We continue with some examples of Ichimonji blades. First is a Tokubetsu Juyo (Fukuoka) Ichimonji with translations. It is interesting to note that this sword is titled as Ichimonji and then given its attribution to Fukuoka Ichimonji in the main body of the setsumei. 9. Second Zufu drop is of Juyo Hasebe with translation Hasebe Juyo Paper.pdf Hasebe Juyo Zufu.pdf
  10. Hello All In this thread I will be dropping random Oshigata and their translations by @Markus Sesko (having taken his permission of course). I would like to thank Markus for his gracious permission. Those that know how valuable his work is and his willingness to always translate the documents we seek to have their secrets revealed. Thank you for everything Markus as always. The first will be a sword that has had quite the journey: Presenting Tokubetsu Juyo Aoe with translations for the Juyo and the TJ side by side. This sword went from Hozon- THozon- Juyo and TJ. The various translations shed interesting light on how the NBTHK approached this sword at 2 levels. Happy to discuss. 11. I am attaching an interesting document from the past that shows a list of books the JSSUS would reference in the past. Perhaps some of them are still available in the ether. Book Library Catalog Issue A.pdf
  12. I second @Gakusee because I have owned Naginata that were very slender and although I have no love for them (sold long ago) they come in a variety of sori.
  13. Kanbun perhaps but needs way more pictures hard to say anything from the documents
  14. On this note, I believe if the NBTHK wants to hold one in contempt they would have done so numerous times already. I met twice with them in 2017 and 2018 and both instances the consensus was "why do you need us to sign a release?" I think there is an educational aspect and a commercial aspect to consider from their side. They have been very clear that no matter what is out there in the west they still make commercial gain papering swords and fittings.
  15. Anything i share with @Brian will be my personal database and I will never infringe on the efforts of others. I have a very small database comparing to others so hopefully this puts things to rest and others can relax easy. Gentlemen I know my place now after many years of experiencing courteous gestures from members of the community. All documents will be passed after consultation.
  16. Ok so @Brian much to horror of the secretive society I will begin sending you everything. Please email me your current mailing address so I can start, unless it is still the same as before?
  17. Ok this is an incredible offer at this price, amazing sword.
  18. It has been many years but I think there is a disconnect in information and important translated information that is held quietly between a select few. I am one of those guilty parties, if @Brian was open to it i would very much like to pass all my translated Juyo documents, edo period documents and many other acquired articles for him to post on the site but we are talking many gigabytes of data... no idea how to make that work and there is a time consuming element to it. @Brian let me know.
  19. @Jussi Ekholm nice blades! The right is a Nagamaki right?
  20. Yes, I think everyone is in agreement and put forth examples in a diplomatic way. But you are right, I want to call it an exception 😉
  21. @Jacques is correct here, but since the Naginata Naoshi is a modified version of a previous Naginata there are exceptions. I am attaching a Juyo Bungo Tomoyuki and one side the boshi is yakitsume and on the other slightly turned back as per the setsumei and oshigata.
  22. Rayhan

    Jifu?

Ok so no-one got my humor, can you show us the whole sword with some more pics so we can make a stable judgement?
  23. Rayhan

    Jifu?

Is this an edo period blade?
  24. Everything that takes up your time as an individual is an investment. Time is a fleeting currency. From a monetary standpoint there will be an increase for this sword from Hozon to Tokubetsu Hozon but not by very much. The risk is time to get there, rejection by NBTHK if certain parameters are not met, insurance, shipping cost, etc. This sword might go up slightly but after all the variable extra cost it might just end up break even.
  25. That is a wonderful gift of knowledge for collectors, thanks @Rivkin Im sure a lot will be discussed around this document and it's views. Looking forward.
