  3. Ron, I take your point and my small point is they are not synonymous and I say that as a veteran artilleryman of 22 years.
  4. Stephen I just booked a flight and a room. I will bring plenty of envelopes and you can sign one. Sorta make it look like you did it on the train to Schaumberg. :D
  5. Methinks it's a bit to out of round for a canon ball but perhaps it might have been used in a grape or cannister loading.
  6. I'll be there so long as Stephen will be signing autographs...

    Goto kozuka

Does the workmanship say Goto? I can't tell from the photo.
  8. Hi Clive, I have a couple of references that include an expletive with the Peer's famous quote above. Did you remove it in deference to the politeness of our society.
  9. My understandinmg to date is similar to John's based on remarks in both of Sasano's books and the Akasaka School book published by the Sano Art Museum. Stay tuned, there has got to be more information out there somewhere...
  10. Andy, thanks for pictures it looiks like folks enjoyed themselves. :D
  11. That appears to be the case at the SFO show and DTI, we'll see how this plays out in Tampa under new management.

    Lacquered Tsuba

Hey Keith be gentle with this rude colonial. My post was intended for Ruben and the one that followed. I know you are aware of Ford Hallam's credentials and I thought his remarks would have been definitive and accepted as the end of it. Silly me, this is the NMB where threads take on a life of their own.
  16. I applaud your efforts, thanks.
  17. Thanks John, in this particular instance it appears alone on the seppa dai of an Akasaka tsuba.
  18. How many ways can "Take Ichi" or "Take Kazu" be interpreted other than number 1 bamboo or first bamboo?

    Lacquered Tsuba

Probably someone unaware of Mr. Hallam's background, experience and reputation. Still this is an interesting thread for learning what to do and what not to do.
  20. Thanks for the reminder, Barry. I can certainly express more gratitude in my life. And thanks to Pete for his expression of kindness.
  21. Nice to know Stephen. I may need your assistance.
  22. I'll wait for the first reviews.
  23. Bruno, I believe you are wise to be cautious. I really like the tsuba in your avatar. What can you tell us about it? (In the appropriate section, of course.)
  24. That is a superb series period! So much more than nihonto. If most television was that good I would be watching more of it. Thnaks for the wonderful trip down memory lane. :D
  25. I can understand that as I feel much the same about Akasaka. However I confess to an ocassional longing glance at Owari and Ko-Tosho (something about the age) Your beginning journey into tachi kanagushi would be a good discussion thread and might turn up some new references for all of us.
