Paperwork is Tachi, what do you guys think about this sword ? https://sword-auction.com/ja/product/24397/as24548-刀:無銘波平・室町時代前期保存刀剣/

I was more interested in the Koshirae than the actually blade. It was signed by Shigenao full set Koshirae.

Oh wow it sliced his head off so clean, where did you buy it from 😂 -
Thank you for your advice. Indeed 1m to 2m yen seems to be nicer range for antique tachi.

I came across this Nihonto from Masahiro 6th generations and was just wondering what is the proper price for this one. And how healthy is the blade. I’m pretty new to this, been learning how to maintenance the blade but no clue on reading the condition of it.

I see, but can we use certain measurement to determine at all like the deep of sori ?.

Thank you Francis, your input is really helpful. Im looking to purchase my second Nihonto, since my first one is still on the way from Japan and not sure If I was overpaid for it. It was a Wakizashi early Edo period by Morikuni, signature was really blur and it doesn’t have certification beside the registration. Paid $2000 AUD for it. After doing a bit of research, i found that Koto Tachi will be only nihonto im buying from now. Love the curve and the soul of it.

How can you tell a mumei sword is a Tachi or Katana ? Base on the Curvature or else ?. On the other hand I can see some Katana with Tachi mei as well. I’m a bit confuse here. By the way, I’m after a Koto Tachi with a nice curvature. Been looking through lot of websites but couldn’t find anything less than $6000 with paperwork and blade in great condition. Where do you guys shop ?. Thanks in advance.

So this was sold today for $6000. I guess people not as expert as our member here to spot its a gimei ?

Just because the mei was signed differently doesnt mean its gimei anyway. This is the point i'm trying to say. The artist could have signed it in a bad mood , drunk , sick or who knows. Unless its worth over 100k at least sword then I would try my best to prove its is from the artist.

What do you mean by suspicious ?. Just by looking at Mei I guarantee 100% no one can tell its Real or Fake. I sent the Mei itself to Hizento and he said it's fake without looking at anything else but just the Mei.

Stop listening to them, many dealer in Japan including the big and trusted one selling Nihonto without certificate even they have signature on it. Because they only have few spots available so they will send in the most valuable one. So the lower value one can wait or sell to customer.
-
So you telling me Tozando in Kyoto selling fake Nihonto to me ?. Because I bought a Nihonto off him with signature on the Mei and doesn't have any certificate. Stop your baloney, many sword from Aoi Art and other dealers doens't have certificate as well.

Have a look at this two from the 8th generation of Tadayoshi, sold from Samurai Museum with NBTHK certification. Both mei 5 characters look tottaly different even it was signed by the same person. So saying a mei is gimei because of the signature is baloney. One could be made when he was young and one could be made when he was older ( or drunk , sick ... ).
