Will try to find better lighting to take better pictures but I was able to get it a part quite easily watching a youtube video. Thank everyone for your help..... It has some Japanese writing or symbols on the tang part

This small sword was in with two military swords in my grandfathers ww2 chest. Any thoughts on if I should take it somewhere or to whom to be evaluated? Thanks in advance.
