@Iaido dude All is good thank you. Hope all is good with you too. Yes, there is a little bit of rust on this tsuba, as one can expect. However, condition is good and patina is nice. Yes, its correct. Inome (heartshaped) is meant to represent boars eye. There is good info on the subject on this post:

A very charming nadekakugata tsuba - Owari or Nishigaki Asking price: $645 More info: https://tsubashi.com...-nadekakugata-tsuba/ Iron, nadekakugata tsuba with images of turnip and bamboo leaves with snow drift, done in sukashi. Inome (heart-shaped) perforations on the left and right sides of this otherwise asymmetric tsuba. The design elements are an unusual combination, and indeed turnips are rarely seen on tsuba. The school is possibly Owari, or perhaps Nishigaki. This is an interesting tsuba that is full of character and indeed very, very nice. Mei/signature: Mumei School/province: Owari or perhaps Nishigaki Period/age: Edo Measures: 6.85 cm x 6.70 cm x 0.55 cm Certificate: No Included: NO kiri box included

Unsigned Kotō tanto with NBTHK Hozon, attribution to the Kaifu school Asking price: $1350 + shipping (or best offer) https://tsubashi.com...-koto-w-nbthk-hozon/ The Kaifu school made swords from the kotō era, through to the shin-shintō era. They were located in the province of Awa (present day Tokushima prefecture). This sword is a hirazukuri tanto, likely a pre-Edo kotō piece, with longish sugata of 9 sun 2 bu (27.87cm), very shallow sori, gunome-midare hamon, nie deki, with lots of activities visible in the habuchi. Horimono of goma-bashi on one side, and sō-no-kurikara with lotus base on the other. It looks like it has some interesting activities in the hamon (looks like sunagashi and inazuma), and a lot of nie in the habuchi.. Two mekugi ana in nakago. The blade have, as is to be expected from a kotō blade, seen quite a few polishes and can still be well enjoyed and studied as is. Shirasaya with built-in habaki and nicely done. This tanto was sold from Barnaby auction, Hungary, 01/27/2018. Mei/signature: Mumei School/province: Awa Kaifu School Period/age: Kotō Cutting edge: 27.87 cm Width: 28 mm Thickness: 5 mm Certificate: NBTHK Hozon !!! REMEMBER TO SET VIDEO SETTINGS TO BEST QUALITY !!!

Replied. Thank you.

I couple more pics to judge from would be great. Some more clear/close up of nanako and dragon. Made to look in style of Goto school is my first impression. Probably a later Edo or Meiji piece. These are not uncommon and can look quite fashionable at first glance.

A Ko-shoami, possibly Muromachi tsuba Iron, sumiiri-mokkōgata tsuba with images of warabi (ferns) in the four corners of the tsuba in sukashi. The design is an old one dating from Jomon times, and represents a fern just as it emerges and unfolds, symbolizing spring, life, rebirth. The shape and thickness makes this an interesting tsuba. Possibly Ko-Shōami. Hitsu-ana might be a later addition? If a later addition this may indicate this is an older tsuba: circa Muromachi. Number "146" written inside nakago-ana indicates this tsuba have been part of a museum- or large collection. Mei/signature: Mumei School/province: Possibly Ko-Shoami Period/age: Early Edo or possibly Muromachi Measures: 6.95 cm x 6.80 cm x 0.25 cm Certificate: No Included: NO kiri box included Asking price: $545 or best offer + shipping https://tsubashi.com...bly-muromachi-tsuba/

Thanks for your replies... I am asking because my knowledge about Nishiaki tsuba isnt exactly great. I have been wondering in first hand, if this tsuba belongs to Nishigaki... or perhaps Akasake or something else… However, I found that I decided towards Nishigaki (Kanshiro?) as I noticed/discovered it seems to be a trait on Nishigaki tsuba to be carved into the nakago-ana/seppa-dai area (as marked on picture attached). I do not find this trait on any other tsuba I can find... This I found interesting in studying this tsuba... I also from my own study feeling this is a late generation Nishigaki... There were 9 generations, if I am right... @Curran Thanks for giving me your opinion. I agree in full with you that tsuba is worn and gold looks like something that is added later and not very well-done. The thickness however have not been striking me as unusual. Question Questions are: Do you see tsuba from other schools than Nishigaki with this trait? Possible to say which generation? ... And now, from info above, could this be an earlier/middle generation that is some abused and with gold added later - or just a later generation? Any info/opinions are of course welcome.
