  1. Hello everyone. This is an interesting thread. Last month there was an auction in Osaka. The collection belonged to one private collection. Many beautiful and notable works. However everything was selling fast way beyond budget and anticipation. In the heat of the moment I bid on a few items. The one I won was signed “Izumi No Kami Kunisada” not papered. Days later through this forum I learned that the characters were not accurate to how the smith signed. Yet it was found decent enough to be part of one’s collection. However the sword is beautiful and impressive quality. It does have me wondering further. Why would one sign a name a as a pun? It seems quite poetic and absurd in one sense. Perhaps it’s how an artist would sign something he didn’t quite love? I agree this debate is fascinating, even if only as a history of counterfeit.
  2. Hello friends, I wanted to share with you a Wakizashi that I recently won at auction. Grateful to learn anything you might share about it. Papered by NTBHK in 1953 as Kanemoto. Thank you for your time.
  3. Thank you for the information. I will add to the photos when it arrives.
  4. Thank you for the information Jacques. I am learning a lot today.
  5. And be wary of auctions
  6. Thank you Ray. Any accurate information of what it could be is appreciated.
  7. Thank you Ray, I have updated with some more photos.
  8. Hello all, I am grateful to find this forum. For months I have enjoyed reading your responses to one another and learning together. Last week I purchased a Katana from Waki Auctions in Osaka. Singed Izuminokami Kunisada. Curious to know any further information. There are limited photos until it arrives in the next months. humbly nick
