So I'm very new to collecting, only have a type 95 gunto so far (sorry bear with me!) Lol. Happened to wander into a local antique shop today and found a genuine Daisho! Umfortunatly in poor condition, with a fake signature on the katana too, but were great to see!

Bloody love this advice thankyou, I do tend to jump into things. I'm trying to learn as much as I can, I think I have read every post in the Military Sword section on here so far lol. Yes WW2 era is my main interest, the bug has bitten. Thank you all for putting up with a newbie, and thank you all for your help and guidance so far 🙏.

You are right. I'd ideally like a normal shingunto. I shall learn patience!

Thanks, will try a WTB, might go to the show at the motorcycle museum next month too. That one I posted above was on JCmilitaria

That is a very fair point, apologies for my newness to the whole thing. In England where I live the choice of items to buy is a lot less, our Ebay for example dosen't allow edged weapons. I would much prefer to buy something I know more about. Perhaps a WTB post on this forum would be the better way to go. Thankyou all for your help and patience so far. Adam

Back to the drawing board! Lol. Does this one look more interesting? Unsigned but with 2 mons, 53.5cm cutting edge, wakazashi in gunto mounts?

Hi all, After buying a Type 95 I have caught the bug! Looking to buy a Type 94 or 98 next. These are the ones on offer to me, I have run them past Bruce already. No other pics unfortunately, what do you think/what would you pick? Any help appreciated! Adam

1st Pattern Aluminiun Tsuka Type 95

It's 1200 for the month on average isn't it? 24,000 for 1941. I think the number for these is way lower than that though. Production must have ramped up as plans progressed for war? -
1st Pattern Aluminiun Tsuka Type 95

9811 I would count, 10506 is another sub variant I think where they adjusted the ito. Mines 8650 so thats 1161 possible so far? Will do more digging for examples. -
Hi all, been learning a lot from this forum, is there an estimate to how many ot the Type 95's were produced with the 1st pattern aluminium tsuka (where the screw passes through the ito wrap on one side)? I know it was a short 9 monthish production run?
-
It's the first pattern earlier aluminium tsuka, the screw position was moved after 11 months of production. We were discussing if it had been repainted, were thinking most probably not now. The metal fitting have definatelly been over cleaned.

Hi Bruce, Great result with the original tsuka paint, the sales photo's didn't do it justice at all. I will pop a few more saya pictures on for you shortly. Does the mismatch between blade and saya numbers have a detrimental effect on the value, I'm just happy to finally own one to be honest lol. Adam

Hi all, just received my first Type 95 I ran past you all last week, gotto say it looks even nicer in person. Was a little dissapointed the saya isn't matching serial no but hey ho. Enjoy the pics!
-
Hi John, I did check out all the current copies being made by these and others beforehand, none were the earlier pattern Aluminium tsuka.
-
Thanks Bruce, I've purchased it now so will send close up's when it arrives. Have to say I am excited!

Many thanks Kiipu, other than the repaint it looks a nice piece to me, more work to be done on the knot I think.
