  3. Good afternoon all, I have acquired this Katana and would like some assistance in transalting the mei. I have tried to have a go and think the first kanji is Hira and the last one Butsu. Also I think the first one on the saya is either Mitsu or San. Any help would be most appreciated It is not in very good condition and there are lots of corrosion on the blade. Blade is 34" from tip to tip. The pictures of the hamon are all that I can get. The odd thing about this is the suspension ring on the saya is opposite to others I have. Many thanks, Paul

  6. Hello Piers, Thanks for your reply. I have at home both Hawley and Sesko and was wondering if this could be the Tamenaga. Regards, Paul

  14. Hi Jean, Matt and Thomas, Many thanks for the information. Would the smith be the following Tamenaga? I am still very new to translating these kanji. Thanks Paul 爲長 [Help] ◯ 延文︱ 備中 Tamenaga ID TAM83 Province Bitchū Era Enbun (1356-1361) ND Active Period 1356-1361 School Aoe Source Rating Reference/Page Hawley 20 TAM83 Other NMK-549-7 Signatures: 爲長 tamenaga

  17. Good morning all. I hope everyone had a good Christmas? I need some help with the first Kanji please? I think the second one is Mitsu. The blade is in poor condition but there is no deep rusting, only surface and it looks like someone has had a go at cleaning it. There may be a hamon but it cannot be seen. There are no sepa or saya. Thanks in advance, Paul
  18. Thank you for your reply. I thought it may have been a poem or something similar. I wonder what it was doing inside the handle and how long it has been there. Regards, Paul
  19. I meant to say I think it is a Satsuma Rebellion sword because of the plain iron mounts, washers in the handle and canvas binding. Paul
  20. Here are some pics of the actual Wakizashi, Paul
  21. Hello all, Could someone please translate the attached please? It was found in the handle of what I think is a Satsuma Wakizashi. The handle was held in place with a great big screw and when it was removed and the handle taken off this piece of paper fell out. I have managed to unwrap it but all of what you see is what there is. Many thanks in advance, Paul
  22. Steve, I am in Essex
  23. Well, this was part of the junk as well. - The person, who wrote this mei, was either severly disabled, over a hundred years old, or.... just an ignorant faker. TOMOMITSU or not: You better forget about this mei and focus on the blade. reinhard OK is there anywhere in the UK that I could take the blade to for someone to have a look at? I have been given a couple of contacts but they are in US/Hawaii. I don't want to fork out a sum sending it abroad only to find out that it is not worth it (if you see what I mean!!!!!) Thanks
  24. Stephen, I am new to this, and bow to all who are knowlegable but I'm only trying to get a second opinion as someone else thought that the firsrt character may not be Tomo, as it was written in an unusual manner!!
  25. Hello Collectors, This is my first post to this forum. I have been sent over here from the WA forum. Could anyone help me with this signature please? I think it could be Tomomitsu but not sure. I came across this piece in a load of junk. It has seen better days but I would like any information about getting it restored. Thanks in advance, Wooly
