  1. I really enjoy the pattern in the kissaki. The sword is signed Yamashiro Daijyo Minamoto Kunishige.

    Fatal flaw?

Tom, if it makes you feel any better, this was my first purchase. I've since acquired some better ones and it's a fun conversation piece. Some of us learn by making mistakes.
  3. Roger, I'm very new to this space. But reading other threads I got the impression you were the right person to ask if the attached is a gimei? @Mark S. was nice enough to translate the Mei as "Hizen Koku ju TADAHIRO saku".

I've been reading a bunch of threads and it sounds like there are a lot of fake Tadahiro signatures. Thanks in advance.

  4. Thank you @Mark S.
  5. What are people's thoughts about replacing a broken Kurikata like on this Tanto? Or leave it in the original condition?
  6. Congratulations on your purchase and story. Sounds like the tanto choose you.
  7. You guys are great. Thank you.
  8. They should just describe them both as swords. Then it would be accurate.
  9. I'm not to worried about it. I think I paid $300 for it. I really just wanted to make sure it found a good home. Since the pitting is on the last 9 inches of a 26 in blade, I guess I could get it cut down to a wakizashi, but that's probably not worth the effort. It's probably best kept as a conversation piece.
  10. I'm very much new to this, but I've gone deep down the rabbit hole on other topics and love the journey of learning. Thanks to you and the others for all of your comments and insights. Great community.
  11. I think the issue is it's very pitted. Someone neglected the blade for a long time. It doesn't have an Mei on the nakago. Here's some pics. I'm guessing it's beyond hope.
  12. Thank you Spartancrest. I will not make that mistake again: Tsuba. I also just learned the meaning of Mei. So much to learn.
  13. Spartancrest, that one in the box looks almost the same - but with some less wear. The one with the fishing boat is pretty thick and has a decorative edge.
