  1. Looks alright to me
  2. Thanks for all the interest in the sword, guess taking a punt on a rough//unusual looking sword sometimes works out ( although how it ever ended up in the UK is a mystery) and I have also made a pile of new washers seeing as the original has started to crumble apart. So if anyone wants any of my spares shoot me a message I suppose.
  3. Thanks for the information, although it is missing the spring clip feature completely so is this a special feature for Chinese export as opposed to surplus Japanese production? Also any idea what the characters say on the blade? Thanks again.
  4. And the cleaned up pictures next to a type 32 KO.
  5. Won this at auction a few months ago thinking I was getting a rough looking type 32 from the auction pictures but after getting it in person and discovering it's not a type 32 but something strange as it seems well made and pretty similar in quality to the type 32 I already have and from the condition and age of the leather it seems contemporary with the age of the ones I already have. Anyhow can anyone give anymore information or ideas about what I have? I have included pictures of how it came and how it's looking now ( was pleasantly surprised when the xinhai stars started emerging from under the rust although they and the stamp on the blade are the only markings I could find)
  6. Thanks for the information, what kind of rating did this smith have quality wise as I think I have read elsewhere on this forum that showato guntos are uncommon to find in koshirae with a Mon on them?
  7. Sometimes you get lucky at auction as this was not a good looker from the auction pictures when I placed a low bid, so it was a nice suprise on collection no pitting particularly in the flesh (looked black and sandpapered in some of the pictures) a Mon on the tuska and a nicely visible hamon.
  8. Thanks for the info, Had a look without the habaki and could not find a showa stamp.
  9. The Odd mekugi ana on the otherwise good tsuka.
  10. Won a Gunto at auction and whilst looking good from the photos it appears to be a put together at aleast as for as the tsuka and seppa are concerned (annoying as the tsuka is very nice including the separate sarute barrel) although i may be wrong as the lower mekugi ana does line up and seems rather solid when assembled (no ratting) although I have never seen a gunto tsuka with an additional unused one. in addition to the chuso not reaching the saya. The saya appears to fit quite well and the blade is a rather beefy 985 mm including the Tang annd 760ish from the Habaki. and although there is some corrosion there is a visible Hamon on the blade and no chips surprisingly. Thanks for any information and opinions.
  11. Quick update, The wrap became quite loose but I got in touch with Mr Collins on the phone today and he was pleasant when I told him the issues and he agreed to redo the wrap, Fingers crossed this one will turn out better. Will update with the results when I get it back.
  12. That's a shame, I cant say i was ecstatic when I got it back but I thought it was just me being overly picky. Guess I will have to teach myself next time I need to do a rewrap.
  13. Hi I had Dave Collins from Kawagishi.co.uk cost £195 for the silk, Wrapping and Uk postage. I have included the After pics for review in any case.
  14. Cheers for the info, I have sent it off to be rewrapped in a golden brown colour so hopefully will look close to how it was. Now to hunt for a matching Tsuba which I am going to guess will be similar to the koshirae (dragon themed) rather than the crane themed menuki. I can see this being an expensive quest lol.
  15. Thanks, the blade is 55cm and the tsuka 22cm. Sadly no saya.
  16. Another sword for review, From my researh It would appear to be the Mino Hidemoto from around 1850? As for the blade does anyone have a rough idea as to a period as despite being a mumei with some flaws the koshirae seems quite nice other than the tsuba which does not fit particularly well so i'm guessing someone sold it in the past. Also as it is going to need rewrapping what ito would be recommended the same gold or would a different colour go better with the fittings? Thanks.
  17. Hi new member on this forum, One of 2 swords I recently won at auction for less than £160. Managed to get it translated on warrelics forum and when researching it further I managed to read up on Okashi-to on this forum so I thought it may be worth sharing. Anyhow Thanks for reading and any additional info would be appreciated and I'm happy to provide any additional info or pics.
