  1. Here is the link to the auction I acquired it from. The Dennison collection of arms and armour. https://www.sworder....-of-arms-and-armour/
  2. Thanks guys, Yes it is ugly. Kind of ghastly. The yadome are not symmetrical , hence the poor craftsmanship of the hoate and the jaw is really stout and crude. The eyes, nose and hinge work have a little more skill and require a little more finesse. It weights a little over 1.5 Lbs. It's definitely heavy face armor. Artistic expression was not the intention. Seems more utilitarian in nature. Thanks AR.
  3. Hi Uwe, I just got a Q-tip and the white stuff came off? Under a jewelry loop there is some yellow and tan mixed in. Kind of looks like ear wax. Funny right! There is no discoloration under it. The black spots look like urushi dots. I did some digging. Would this be Edo period bottom and the top eyes added in Meiji period? Both sections are hinged with pins the can be removed. Or was this made at one time as a somen from the beginning? I don't know. Should I post to JAS Forum. I know somens more niche them mempo.
  4. Hi Bruno, I don't have the list, but would also like to tag onto this request. Does anyone have the price list and the Christies catalogs for the sale? I've seen them for $300.00. I recently acquired this wakizashi and would like to confirm that it was part of that sale and the price. I would appreciated any information. Bruno, I hope it is ok to join your request. I apologize if over stepping. Hopefully some one will help. Thanks. Anthony R.
  5. Any information on this 3 piece Somen would be appreciated. It is not signed. Is the expression Ryubu man? He looks more like he saw a ghost. It does pass metal test and has rust spot and bubbling up on the nose piece and inside forehead and nosepiece. Can I use a drop or two of sewing machine oil? Will this harm the black coating? Is it better to just keep as is and not do anything to preserve. Thanks, Anthony R.
  6. Thanks for the info Luc.
  7. Please don't mind the mannequin. There where female Samurai too, LOL . Acquired a suit of armor and hoping to get more information on the parts. The is a 32 plate Suji-Bachi, correct?? It is unsigned. Can anyone give any info on maker? It came as is. I did not write on the inside Ukebari. Should I remove and fit new one? Also, there are microcracks in the black lacquer. Is there anything to help this from getting worst. Thanks. Anthony R.
  8. Very interesting read! Thanks for sharing. Anthony R
  9. Yes, Thank you Geraint. I am new and just started learning. I did see the list of suggested books to read and will start there. Thanks for the "unsigned" explanation. There is so much to learn and so much history. It's amazing. This is out of my range, but hope to start low and work my way up.
  10. This just came up. Is this roughly 700 years old. Looks great for that old. Also has a nice history. But unsigned? The description is interesting historically. so wanted to post it here for possible discussion. https://www.liveauct...with-nbthk-tokubetsu Anthony R.
  11. Hi Piers, Thanks for the reply. That is a great analogy, the old general. This makes a lot of sense. So the newer "not battle ready" items are made of what, fiberglass or plastic?
  12. Hi, I'm new to the Forum. Thanks for being here. I've been reading a lot of the older post and learning so much. My question is more of an armor history question. The two different sode are metal and the belted kusazuri is leather with metal reinforced strip. Are the metal sode older? Is the kusazuri newer because its leather? Was leather used, then metal, then leather in showa? Is it normal to have a leather kusazuri to save weight and metal sodes? Sorry, I know it's a lot of questions, but I think you may get the gist of it. Thanks. Anthony R.
