  1. Understood. Thanks for the help you all. Its much appreciated.
  2. Hey all, got another Mei I’m hoping the experts will look at. It’s a Shimosaka but I’m not sure what the rest of the Mei is and if it looks correct. Thoughts?
  3. No doubt. I had the very same thought. That mei looks super suspect to me as well. Glad someone more educated thought the same.
  4. Hey Fellas, So after doing some research it seems that the first generation Kaneyasu was left handed and signed in a mirror image. "Mutsu no kami Kaneyasu was among the last generations of the Tegai school of Yamato, who migrated to Osaka around the end of the 16th century. Among his pupils was the renowned Iga no kami Kanemichi, whose own pupils included Echigo no kami Kanesada. Kaneyasu is known as Hidari Mutsu from his custom of signing in mirror imagery." I have found a few examples of the signature to compare against. I will also see about taking some better photos once I am able. Thoughts on this??
  5. Hi again all. I have found some examples of Iga no Kami kinmichi 1st generation that have a straighter hamon line. Is there a chance then this this one could still be legitimate?? See attached.
  6. Thomas that makes sense. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. This is such an interesting science for sure. I appreciate all the insight.
  7. Ah interesting. So does that mean it is Gimei (fake signature)???
  8. I have no experience with evaluating the blade. I have uploaded photos and can take more. Not sure what you would need to see. Thanks again for the training and support.
  9. Hi Team. I have another katana I am looking at and hoping for some translation support. Mei is only on one side. Please see photos. Any insight here??
  10. Hi all. I am grateful for all of the insight. I have attached photos of the actual blade here for review. It has been an amazing process to begin what seems to be a life long education on this topic. Its fabulous that all of you are here and so educated and also willing to share insights. One of the questions I have is related to the comment from Christian about the seller Komonjo. Do you all know this person and is he/she a less than reliable source of swords? Should I steer clear of their sales? If so, are there specific sellers that do sometimes have good legitimate swords that are not many thousands of dollars? I am sort of a treasure hunter but am also ignorant enough that I can be duped very easily in this setting. Thanks again for all of the great insights.
  11. Hey all, Im assuming by the lack of response that this topic may be in the wrong section. Either that or I have not provided enough info. Any insight or help with some direction would be super appreciated. Thanks again all and apologies for the ignorance.
  12. Hi all, I am new to this forum and hope this is the correct spot to ask this question. I picked up with Wakizashi that seems to have a legitimate signature but Im unclear if there is a good way to determine if its legitimate. Its signed "iga no kami kinmichi" but Im not clear how to determine if its legitimate and or which generation it might be from. The blade has a straight hamon line. I have attached photos for review. Thanks in advance for any insight or help anyone can provide.
