@Bruce Pennington he sent me more pics of the nakago. It does have a W stamp. But not sure if that is what it should look like

I was able to get him to take the handle off. I had it translated as Takehisa made in Showa 18. Oil quenched showato. Any thoughts?

Hey all! My gut and everything I’ve learned so far tells me this gunto is real. I just wanted to get your opinion. The seller is concerned about removing the handle. But it’s priced cheap so I can take a risk. Just wanted another opinions if it appears to be real or if I am missing any red flags

I honestly don't know. This is all I have from the seller. Looks like they just focused on the signature and not the entire tang unfortunately. I will ask the seller the next time I talk to them, but I doubt they will remember or would have noticed if it did.

Thank you @Ray Singer! So do you think Showato or Gendaito?

Hello all, I was finally able to get a signature from the seller. The date was already translated as 1941. Can someone make out the signature?
-
Okay! The seller is sending me one of the other side then!

@Ray Singer, thank you for the quick translation. In doing some quick reading, I am curious. Were the “mantetsu” blades water quenched or oil quenched? I always understood that water quenched blades were traditionally made and showato were always oil quenched. Is that accurate? Do mantetsu blades always have a suguha hamon?

Thank you all for your help. I don’t know much about Kanenari. Was he a good swordsmith?

Is the Tsuba real? It seems pretty crude and simple to me. -
Hello all, I am new to nihonto and definitely not an expert with this style of Japanese sword so I am asking your your help. I was under the impression that all these "parade sword" blades were machine made. My question is, is this blade machine made or could it be an older wakizashi (nagasa is 24 1/4 inches long) n modern mounts. What do you think? Machine made or could it be older? Does this style of blade detach from the handle where the nakago can be visualized?
