The Katana is in a new polish and only has one ware on the mune, I could not find any other flaws. For the Jidai, I am unsure (and so was the dealer) to the specific period the blade was made in. Please make your own observations. Although the blade certainly is from the Muromachi Jidai. I believe it is more on the early side of Muromachi than the later side. Please see the pictures and make your own conclusions. The sword is in the EU. Shipping can be done internationally, Europe is about 50-60 euros, US 80 euros. Photos from the dealer, the blade has NOT changed since I purchased it. It is in the same condition. Below in the reply a few pictures I took of the ware, and some zoom in pictures.
  3. Eirakudo does this often, they tend to place the items on Jauce with a low starting price. Only to remove the listing because it does not reach the desired price. This listing will probably also get removed. I confirmed with them that this is their official account.
  4. Hello NMB, I would like to sell this Hozon papered Wakizashi Tsuba here on the forum. I posted this tsuba on the forum before to inquire about it in general, here is the thread: SOLD I am not really a tsuba expert at all so I will let the NBTHK papers talk for the tsuba as for description. Any questions are welcome.
  5. My pictures: I can make more pictures on request, but the condition really did not change as far as I have observed from when the pictures where taken in Japan. PS. There will be a donation to NMB if I generate a sale through NMB Shipping can be done internationally, Europe is about 50-60 euros, US 80 euros. Contact me for any questions
  6. Dear NMB, I am selling this wakizashi signed: Hitachi Kami Muneshige 常陸守宗重 Motte Nanbatetsu Saku Kore 以南蛮鉄作之 Includes AOI art Oshigata, NBTHK hozon papers, and a sword bag, comes in shirasaya. Dimensions: Fittings (Tsuba): Double-layered copper base Blade Length: 53.9 centimeters (21.22 in) Curvature: 0.5 centimeters (0.2 in) Mekugi-ana (Peg Hole): 1 Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.8 centimeters (1.10 in) Width at Tip (Sakihaba): 1.85 centimeters (0.73 in) Thickness (Kasane): 0.59 centimeters (0.23 in) Description from AOI: Shape: Regular width and thickness, nice shaped Wakizashi. Hada (Grain Pattern): Small itame-hada well-kneaded, becoming Osaka hada. Hamon (Temper Pattern): The nie appears deeply, similar to the era before the production of the turbulent hamon in Tsuda Sukehiro 2nd generation. It seems to have been made in an era when he worked alongside Sukehiro. The pattern is irregular and turbulent. Motte Nanbantetsu. Hitachi no kami Muneshige was also known as Tada Uheijo and became a disciple of Tsuda Sukehiro. He received Hitachi Daijo and used Nanbantetsu for making. Himeji, serving as Tada Uhe’s apprentice, he initially held the title of Hitachi Daijō. He used Nanban-tetsu for crafting. From Aoi Art: Hitachi Kami Muneshige often used Nanban-tetsu to create swords, and this blade is inscribed with “以南蛮鉄作之” on the back of the tang. This indicates the use of Nanban-tetsu in sword crafting, which was a rarity in its time, likely due to the cost and complexity of mixing foreign Nanban-tetsu with Japanese iron. This blade exhibits exceptional craftsmanship and is highly recommended. (In the description there was also a mention of rust near the habaki, I was unable to locate this rust near the habaki at all. But I feel like it might refer to some stains that are close to the habaki, there is NO active rust on the blade. Or visible at all. See images for a good impression) AOI IMAGES: SOLD
  7. If anyone could possibly give me an idea how much this tsuba would be worth approximately then that would be great, I hope I did not overpay for it. As I was promised a Muromachi Tsuba. Greetings, Lex van der Jagt
  8. Hello Steve, Thank you so much for your detailed description of the Tsuba, I have learned a lot! Your information is very valuable to me, as I am not a tsuba collector myself. The Jidai for the tsuba is not Momoyama right? Rather early edo? Please send me any links you would like to show me! I would love to see! Hello Tim, Thank you dearly for this information, I agree that the paper is quite interesting. I could only find Hoan to be attributed to either Den or Kodai Hoan. Greetings, Lex van der Jagt
  9. Thank you greatly Jeann for your help!
  10. Thank you Franco for this detailed analysis, It's beautiful to see it compared to another blade!
  11. Thanks to everyone for their input, Greetings, Lex van der Jagt
  12. Dear Tsuba collectors, Today I was in Utrecht for the Japan Art Expo, and I bought a Tsuba for the first time for my collection. It was mostly an impulse buy, I am a koto collector for Japanese blades. So I feel most attracted to older items for my display. This Tsuba was advertised as Muromachi period Hoan school. The NBTHK papers attribute it to Hoan as well, it unfortunately is mumei. I want to know if you believe this tsuba is Muromachi jidai and any other info about the Tsuba. From what I understand the Hoan school was active during the Muromachi period in Owari province, and later moved in the edo period. (I am not 100% sure about this so please point out if I am wrong)
  13. Hello Franco D, The nakago is 14,2 cm or 5.59 inches. Thank you Lu-Hsi, I was lucky to buy the blade for a good price myself as well. Greetings, Lex van der Jagt
  14. I personally suspect it to be O-Suriage, I have multiple early koto/Nanbokucho period katana they are all O-Suriage and have only one Mekugi-Ana. I believe it is common to see only one mekugi-ana on these blades even though they are most likely O-Suriage. Thank you for taking an interest in the blade and sharing your thoughts! Greetings, Lex van der Jagt
  15. Hello Victor, As a Dutch collector myself, getting blades into the Netherlands from Japan can be quite a tricky business. I would advise buying from Japan or a non-ebay seller in the US, there can also be some gems among collectors here in the Netherlands. If you want a good idea of what dealers can offer here in the Netherlands, then there will be an event this weekend in Utrecht, including dealers and lecturers. I will be visiting myself for the first time as well. I would also like to suggest applying for the Dutch Token vereniging, they have 4 meetings a year and many events that you can visit to learn about Nihonto. Overall choosing the blade you want to buy really depends on preference, but I would recommend starting with reading books. Message me if you need any help with collecting Nihonto here in the Netherlands, or if you want some hands-on experience with samurai swords. I was able to mount it in a shirasaya. It has a Habaki as well. The blade has a beautiful Jigane and dates to the early Muromachi period. There are a few foraging imperfections on the blade, I have done my best to highlight these imperfections in the images. The blade is made in the Yamashiro tradition by the Chiyozuru school. Beautiful sori and hamon activity aswell.
