  1. Just a thought

In order to eliminate shipping issues as well as the anxiety. Is it possible  to 3d print the nakago and part of the blade in oder to get the tsuka re-wrapped or have a new tsuka made?

Keep in mind that metal 3d printing is also a thing as well as 3d lasering. I know the machines are expensive, but the tsukamakish could have the machine and really we would only need to 3d scan and send it to the person making the tsuka. If doing a refurbishment of course we would need to send the old one in.

    All in theory/ an idea.

    Sincerely,

    Timothy Newsom

If you have access to a high quality 3d scanner this should definitely work.  In fact, with a good 3D milling machine the wood Tsuka could be shaped to pretty close to finish based on a scan and a little digital smoothing, if the Nakago is rough.

A 3d milling machine would be pretty awesome to own.
