  1. Thanks Sensei215, Your parents must have had a sense of humour because that is an odd name to sign off with    Do you know anything else about this smith.? Many thanks Moss
  2. Thanks David and John, I really appreciate the help. Moss

  4. Hello all, Does anyone have any clues to what this gunto could be? Thanks in advance, Moss
  5. Hello All, Some more translation help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Moss
  6. Hello all, Can anybody translate this for me? I guess the photos tell the story...all seppa ,dai seppa, and tsuba stamped 3 with another kanji as well. I know the smith is Kaneuji but that is all. How would this blade be classified? Overall it's a nice gunto and has a great feel in hand. Cheers to all over this festive period Moss

    Gunto

Thanks David, I probably should have added that it is Mumei and overall in nice polish. Do you think it could be presented at the next Shinza in Sydney? Moss

    Gunto

Hello All, Well finally I managed to resize these pics. Could anybody tell me approx.how old this blade would be? I guess its a big call from a photo. And what should I insure it for? Many thanks Moss
  11. Absolutely no doubt that I agree with Brian. Stamps wrong and serial numbers in the range of Aluminium handle NCO. What kind of money are you looking to spend Cisco-san some good ones come up here in AUSTRALIA.? Cheers Moss
  12. Tomek, I may be able to help with pictures of a NCO Tsuka. I can't promise I can find them but I will have a look over the weekend. Its a sad day that you paid $275 for the Chinese NCO, that is what I paid for the last genuine one I bought (Unmatched No.s admittedly) Anyway better luck on others and spend a little on some books on the subject. Cheers Moss
  13. Tomekatana, Looks to me like the serial numbers are rotary engraved rather than stamped. Also the numbers on my NCO's and others I have held are not as even and from memory there is no number on the drag on NCO only on Type 32. There should be another stamp on blade after the serial number. To me and I am NO expert I would run from this as it is about as Japanese as ..Chicken Chow Mein This is only my opinion but fake for sure not worth the postage. Cheers Moss
  14. Maybe we will next see this beauty on Ebay. There are a few sellers here in Oz that could move that baby. Cheers Moss
  15. Thanks Piers and Koichi, I guess I was just trying to clarify things as I recently bought a Katana off a friend of mine in Japan which was registered in 1953,it has a fiery hamon ,is mumei and has been mounted at least twice in its life. Presently it is in Military mounts.Once I buff it up with the grinder I will post photos.......Aarrrg just kidding! I know that my attempt at humour is poor, just wanted to raise your heart rate. Hopefully some of the members on the board can help with what it may be? Many thanks I will post some photos late next week. Cheers Moss
  16. Hello all, I am wondering if some of the members on the board can help me.... Is a Katana in Japan holding Sword and Gun Control Papers more likely to be Nihonto or not? Also I believe that there is conjecture over validity of some of the appraisals on different decades. eg 50s 60s 70s .Apparently some years the registration was not so strict???? Is any of this true or all myth? Thanks in advance Moss
  17. Hello all, the bits and pieces all arrived no worries,as desribed. Doesn't take too much to keep me happy. Moss
  18. Thanks all, I have bought a few items off him so I will see,so far communication has been great and I guess that for most the items are considered Tres Ordinaire but I collect Gunto,so I'm happy with any quality.Ha Ha :D :D :D :D :D . Once again it is good information to come off the message board, many thanks to all who have taken the time to reply. Cheers Moss
  19. Hi Mark, Good advice from all ,I spent 2years in and out of Japan on a rotational basis with the company I worked for .As a speaker of poor to minimal Japanese and often in rural parts of Japan I found that politeness and patience pay dividends,Yes learn the protocol ,act accordingly and you will be amazed at how people respond compared to us southern barbarians. On where to go? I found it all an excellent place to travel anywhere and trains the best mode. Good travels Moss
  20. Hello all, Has anyone had any dealings with Katsuragi_japan? I guess what I ask is are they straight up ? Thanks in advance Moss
  21. Shame that it isn't the four wheel drive version ! Still the price does reflect the mono drive model.   Moss
  22. Thanks for the help Stephen. Very much appreciated. Moss
  23. Hello all, Is it possible that the Tsuka on a Gunto could have shark skin rather than ray skin under the wrapping? It appears to be as old as the rest of the mounts so I don't think it is a recent change. Any help is appreciated Thanks Moss
  24. Thanks Ted , I guess the plot thickens and we will never really know definatively what was the real reason for the fitment in this case. It just adds its own thread in the fabric of life. Many thanks Nic Moss
  25. Thanks for the link Ted, I had come to the assumption that the mounts on this Gunto were for a left hander as even the press stud for the leather retention strap on the field scabbard is on the opposite side which I had assumed was to facilitate release from the saya for a left hander. Is it totally improbable that the Japanese military would have enlisted soldiers particularily towards the end of the war that were left handed? Many thanks for any help. Moss
