Gendaito Toshihira Katana Blade?
Dr Greenthumb80 replied to Dr Greenthumb80's topic in Translation Assistance
I've gotten two Wakizashi swords from this seller, one with a registration card, and the other is certified by NTHK. So, I do trust the seller. -
Does this look like a reproduction or is it genuine? From what I can tell, it seems like it's nihonto quality but the signature looks too crisp to be that old, to me anyways. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Anyone seen anything like this before? If so, what the heck are they? Japanese? Chinese? Old? Reproduction? Please help me identify what these are?

I think I found a match, correct me if I'm wrong please? My mind might be making me see something that's not really there, due to my excitement! The more I learn, the more I want to learn more... good thing there's a ton of info out there. -

I thought it was 1st, 6th, and 8th generations for that title? I'll have to do more research. -

So, not an old Chinese dagger? I know it's not a Japanese tanto, I've been reading and learning as much as I can about authentic Japanese swords. I just picked up a Nagamichi Wakizashi Sword, and I'm learning that Nihonto Swords are way better quality, in every way, than any other swords... now, I'm learning how hard it is to verify the signature, shape, hamon, and metal grain of the sword to be able to verify the maker... wish me luck. It's on my other thread if you want to check it out?

Ok, thank you very much for the info. I'll take some more pictures and do some comparisons on the signature as well. I AM really excited about this sword!!! I'm sure it shows in my descriptions, this is my first "authentic" nihonto sword, I'd love to be able to get the real paperwork for it, and have it restored to it's original glory!!! I don't care how much it costs, this is a real piece of history that I can hold in my hand! I'm hooked for life now. I foresee a lot of research and studying in my future.... thank you again. -

This Wakizashi Sword has to be the real thing, based on the quality of the steel, the grain in the steel, the sharpness, the balance, and it just feels right when you're holding it. I'm new to all of this, so don't take my word on it. But this sword feels genuine. -
Yes, it's made from abalone. I'll have to take some pictures after work today.

Could this be an old Chinese dagger? It is very well made compared to other fakes. Well balanced, very sharp, and all fittings are tight and solid... or is it just made to look the part?

Is that the famous swordsmith from the 1600's? I'll post the Mei picture next. -
