  1. +1 to that Nakago and Sugata suggest Bizen too. Looks quiet similar to my Bizen (same issue, can't read all characters). IMO it is pre-Edo, late Muromachi Koto blade. I would say somewhere around 1550-1600.

  3. What about Hanwei Sword Oil? https://www.kultofat...ct/hanwei-sword-oil/

    Merry Xmas everyone!
  6. I was right, sold for 1700$. Congratulations to "lucky" owner But then again, I'm strugling to sell perfect polish/condition sword for 2k. Maybe I should pair it with some junk and crapy koshirae then list it on eBay as "daisho"
  7. It isn't about scratches. Look on legit Nakago, where patina ends and Hamachi starts. My link as a example. On your sword (based on the pics) it looks odd. Like twice the distance vs what it should be. It doesn't even matter if sword is gimei. That nakago looks really bad. Of course I can be totally wrong (just highlighting this, so hopefully I won't be called hater again ... Dee... )
  8. Well, this looks bad. Like I said, looks as home-made shortening. I have no idea why someone would do this. To fit Tsuka? Hide lack of Hamachi?
  9. Just a though, could it be that shortening was done recently by 'none-professional smith'? Polish might also be messed due to being done (fake Hamon) 'none-professional Togishi' ... Still, I think it is Nihonto, but definitely not Yatsumitsu 1362-1368. Probably not Koto either. Where did you buy this? Komonjo (Ebay) maybe?
  10. @Crusader22 Can you post as advised by @Rivkin all sides of Nakago. Close-up, good quality. Both sides and back/front. Something I did for my sword here: https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/48904-nbthk-mumei-echizen-seki-wakizashi-for-sale/#findComment-508959
  11. Not sure I understand, what do you mean by that? Indeed I did think that. I haven't looked at Oshigata, my mistake. Thanks for the lesson. EDIT: @Tcat Again I'm confused, on Oshigata I also see turn-back of Hamon.
  12. Interesting ... @Sutraken Your sword looks awesome on the pictures and the price is fair IMO. I would buy it if I could afford it. For me, money is a problem in this case.
  13. @BKB5 Hi, congratulations on your purchase! My private opinion below. I love Koshirae except for Tsuba. The one you posted/proposed for swap is way better/nicer. After that Tsuba swap your sword would have one of most beautiful Koshirae's I've ever seen. BTW, is there any Shakudo (Fuchi/Kashira?) on it? I would love to see such Koshirae in my collection, I envy you. As for the blade, I like it, but wouldn't buy it. Hada is nice, I also see Boshi clearly so I'm bit confused with comments from @Tcat I'm that amatory collector who like 'fancy' Hamon (Gunome/Choji <3) and more of a Shinto guy. I have only 1 Koto sword in my collection and I think I'm not mature (collector level) enough for it yet. Still, perfect sword IMHO, to rich for my blood (if I had that money I would be looking for Tadahiro/Tadayoshi work), so I wouldn't buy it. @Tcat what is wrong with that Boshi?
  14. I'm assuming it will reach around 1500$ in bidding. In my opinion both swords are poor. Blades, Koshirae, everything is 'junk' rate to me. Honestly not worth 1k$. You could find much better swords for same money. Another perfect example (like I said) of "I want (matching) Daisho" fever.
  15. https://www.ebay.com...4:g:Wc4AAOSweKRnYGBA Perfect marketing power example of word "Daisho".
  16. Unlikely. I will be straight forward with you. Based on the pictures my amatory opinion is as follows: - Shinto/Shinshinto/Showato blade. Nasty 'ware' and poor/old Hadori polish. - Fuchi/Kashira late Edo, Tsuba modern. Bit missed theme so it appears that Koshirae was put together from parts. - Tsuka-ito condition looks like on my sword I use for Iaido (after 10 years of training). Markings (sword drawing) on Koiguchi might confirm that sword was used for training. - Torokusho in frame looks nice, but honestly, it doesn't bring any value or sword authentication/confirmation. - Not sure how much you paid, in my opinion sword is worth around 500USD, 1k tops. All above is just my personal opinion and I could be totally wrong.
  17. Well ... not always it is a fake Nihonto. Could it be old Korean sword? I'm not the expert, but I've seen genuine Korean swords which looked Nihonto alike. "There is a record that when Koreans obtained a Japanese sword, they would grind down the back and side slopes (shinogi) to make the sides flat and the edge angular." ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_sword Still, patina doesn't look that old (Imjin war - Muromachi), but that is just my opinion based on the pictures.
  18. Interesting finding, a Tanto in Wakizashi Koshirae + Katana. Tagged as Daisho by AOI. https://www.aoijapan...n-osafune-kiyomitsu/
  19. Hi, I regret that I don't have professional pictures of this sword to show the beauty of it, but I will try to add some more for your insight. I will complain (as every seller) that price IMHO is a bargain. Beautiful early EDO blade and renovated Koshirae. Ideal for display. No customs within EU. Cheers!
  20. First one sold (leaves). 2nd/3rd still available.
  21. https://swordsofjapa...uct/kinmichi-daisho/
  22. https://swordsofjapa...ai-tadayoshi-katana/ I know it is 8th gen. not 3rd. or even close. I just wanted to point out the lack of Konuka Hada that @Jacques D. was talking about. Or does later Hizen Tadayoshi has different attribution? Anyway, thanks all for your comments. That was a big topic for me and all replies are appreciated. I think we can close it until sword comes back from Shinsa with a verdict. Cheers!
  23. Hi, Nice one Ray! Would be great to have it and make my own Daisho set of Bizen Osafune ... to bad I can't afford it right now Ref: https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/50556-what-is-daisho-and-why-we-are-wrong-open-discussion https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/48905-could-it-be-bizen-kiyomitsu-which-one
