  1. Mais tout le plaisir est pour moi Jean. NMB is a great place with lovely people ready to help and share their knowledge. I don't want to be seen as rude Regards, Axel N.
  2. Hi Jean, Thanks for the head-up. Sorry dealing with other platform in Europe and it's forbidden to put name or surname in the signature, or at least not recommended. Anyhow I will update my signature. Best Regards Axel N.
  3. Happy New Year to All ! I was not expecting my post to bring such interesting debate on the right terminology. Not sure which one is the right but it's true that in europe these piece are mainly called dagger despite they are due to their shape more a dirk I guess. I have a few other pictures of this dagger/dirk/tanto So I am sure that would help to confirm if it's a genuine one. The scabbard is in lacquered leather. The grip is made of black lacquered shagreen. The blade doesn't seem to be plated but I could be wrong. Everything looks genuine to me but happy to get feedback. Thanks IMG_8082.HEIC
  4. Hi @drb 1643 I attached one picture of the blade. Do you think it's genuine? Thanks
  5. Once again thanks in advance for your help here.
  6. Hi All, It's a dagger not a sword but I am wondering if I can get any help from this forum. I am based in Europe and these pieces are not so common in our region. The reseller is telling me that's a Japan Railway Dagger from WW2. Based on the minimum info I got it looks correct to me, but I am wondering if the dagger is really genuine. Do you know if Chinese/Indian copies of these daggers exist? Any guidance or advise would be welcome. here I am attaching a few pics (I will have to send them by several messages due to the size). Thanks in advance for your help
  7. Thanks all for your confirmation. I was feeling something was not right. Thanks a lot for your help here.
  8. I would need them to withdraw. Thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks vajo. Could you give me some amunition? And explaination? That woud be rgeat.
  10. Hi All, I have seen this Shin Gunto NCO type 95 type. And It looks fine to me but would like to get your second opinion. I already got one Shin Gunto NCO type 95 and I saw difference between the one I have and this one, however as Shamsy raised in one of his post they are several makers an subcontractors so that you can find evidence of difference on several genuine Shin Gunto. I faced the same challenge with German Edge Weapon of WW2. The reason why I am guessing it's a genuine one: 1. Lijima sword factory stamp + Tokyo First Arsenal stamp + Kokura Arsenal stamp on the fuchi sounds ok to me. 2. The serial numbers on both the katana and the saya are matching and sounds good. 3. The serial numbers on the Katana are read with the cutting edge down which is matching with Tokyo First Arsenal blade. 4. The scabbard throat retention screw is on the reverse side as it should be for a Tokyo First Arsenal blade. 5. The menuki is positioned well at the top on the reverse side as it should be for a Tokyo First Arsenal blade. 6. The shape of the scabbard drag is matching the one on a Tokyo First Arsenal blade. 7. The simulated knot design is matching the Tokyo First Arsenal blade. Everything look consistent and coherent but I am guessing the faker know it as well... The reason why I am still questioning or I have some doubts and asking for your advice: 1. The fuki is painted and doesn't seem to be in cupper as it should be. Difficult to see based on the picture. 2. Despite it looks like the "bubbles" to imitate the ray skin on the handle are concave, the quality looks poor to me. Especially in comparison to my Nagoya sword. I am also adding the link where you should be able to see the picture with higher quality. https://drouot.com/fr/l/22151249 I made a bet on it so if I can get your feedback asap than would help me to withdraw in case of negative opinion. Thanks in advance for your support here. Best Regards
  11. Yes the price is very high. However it's really difficult to find such piece in Europe so that the resellers are taking advantage of it. Unfortunately if you try to buy it from the US where the items are of better quality and price, when you start adding the shipping $ + VAT $ + Custom $ you end up poorly with a very high price.
  12. Yes. You're right. Looking at mine cf. pic attached). The "same" should be over the spring of the press button. More I am looking at it more I am thinking of a remade handle with bad ito finish. The "same" looks a bit too bright to me and same for the ito. I could be wrong but I got this feeling...
  13. I just posted here an example of another original Shin Gunto Type 98 that I got in my collection and the Ito is a way more used. The blade was not in as good condition as this one. But still give me the feeling of an unachieved re-wrap of the Ito.
  14. Yes it was what I am guessing. It's not a defect. It's the "spring" of the press button of the type 98
  15. Thanks Colin. I think the damaged you mentioned near by the habaki is the press button to remove the sword from the saya/scabbard. It's typical on the 98 type (militari sword). But never the less the ito still seems pretty new.
  16. Sorry my bad I was looking from the top to the bottom. So the one nearest to the jiri. But I may be wrong. In regards to the tsuka ito I agree. And also it looks like unfinished nearby the Koshirae (pic 1). So probably a re-wrap. Thanks
  17. Thanks. It was not on this website I saw it. But definitely it is this one. Thanks
  18. For the painting of the tang as all the letters are mainly covered by the paint. So we can guess that has been probably done post war. I am guessing that if it was done by a military unit to protect the sword they would have done it prior the inspection process. So that we should have seen the inspection stamp in black and not painted...I am just making assumptions. Maybe overthinking. For the mekugi ana I think that the second one. But not sure. Need to double check. Thanks for your support.
