Hello everyone! This morning I have received a police dirk, that I have exchanged for a couple of Japanese orders. I have several questions that I would like to clarify for myself. 1. Blunt blade. Does it mean that this piece more ceremonial rather than real weapon? 2. Backstrap design, it appears to be unusual. Custom job? As always, I will appreciate any comments on the subject regards Vitaly

Hello everyone! I hope you guys don't mind me asking stupid questions. It will be the case for a while. Sorry. Trying to choose style of the tosogu I would like to collect. I mean not the motif, but more like shape and composition. (subject is still in review) I know that I like asymmetrical composition with some characters, animals etc For a while I will be guided by my intuition only, so would like to have as much info as possible on the items i pick. here is the one: I understand that man is Jittoku. Sweeping our souls clean. My questions please : 1. How this shape is called? 2. What time period is this piece? 3. Was it created as an art object, or it is a practical piece? As always any extra comments will be appreciated PS I have purchased some books, will gradually learn.... Paid 5€ for this one and another one, a little bit more expensive Kind regards Vitaly

Does the place of signature matter? To me, the way the mei is made, quite similar. I mean chisel strokes. Or am I wrong?

Hi everyone! I am looking at the purchase of my first tsuba. I am interested in this particular one offered for sale. My questions are: 1. Is everything ok with this one? work and signature? 2. Might be a silly question: What is the realistic price of that piece? - I understand that some items cost as much as a person wishes to pay for it, but often collectible items have a very definite price tag. Thank you in advance

Shin Gunto koshirae questions.

Thank you so much! All clear for me now -
Hi everyone I have this officer's shin gunto koshirae. And I have several questions about it: 1. I can't find any arsenal marks/stamps on it, is it normal? 2. What material is on the tsuka? Grain is very small 3. How would you grade condition of this whole thing (trying to see if I am dreaming, I think this whole fitting is in quite good shape) 2. In the book (Fuller and Gregory) it was mentioned that these swords could be fitted with ancestry blades. How exactly it would be done? 3. Please feel free to add any other comment - I would be grateful for any info. P.S. I never realized that tsuba will be that heavy Regards Vitaly

Thank you, Ray. I appreciate your comment! -
Hello everyone! Normally, I wouldn't buy anything, without knowing 100% what and why I am getting. But this time I had no time, since the auction was today, and I was willing to take a risk. Please be free to comment on these 2 items Case #1 wakizashi - I just liked it Case #2 I was thinking to get a blade in fairly good condition for my koshirae (which was discussed in my very first post) Thank you in advance Vitaly

Hello everyone! I am totally new to sword collecting. I started to collect Japanese military uniforms from Meiji and Taisho periods and, as a result, got into military swords theme. Slowly learning. Mostly observing and reading. And, of course, questions, questions, questions. I bought recently a sword from Japan, mostly to test if shipping of sword fitting etc. is possible to Ireland at all. The sword has a wooden blade, but some fittings are interesting, and I would like to know more about them. Just any comments please. 1. Tsuba - what can we say about this particular piece? 2. Tsuka (what motif is menuki?), I understand that fuchi i fuchigashira* supposed to match? *) Trying to use correct terminology Regards Vitaly
