  1. Hi Mauro Thank you so much! It will help me a lot. Really really handy it is All the best Vitaly
  2. To me the one on the link has similar finish. But craftsmanship on the round one looks better. To my eyes of course.
  3. Hello gentlemen On the well known auction this tsuba caught my attention. I liked it a lot. In description it was attributed to Masanori of Sunagawa school in Yedo. This one of the same motif from Ashmolean museum. Really interested in your opinions. Regards Vitaly
  4. Ok. First one passed. I'd rather skip it , if there is some doubts. I hope I did better with this one. Already bought. Bushu school. Made by Yoshitsugu. ( Listed in Wakayama book) Tsuba: motif, I think is a bamboo and Aoi leafs. And just to broaden my horizons These books
  5. Absolutely don't
  6. Thank you all, gentlemen! The more tsuba I am looking at, the more nuances come up. Of course, while I am a rookie, some red flags will be overlooked. When I am in doubt, I will ask. And once again I am very grateful for all your help! So I will be moving further down the shopping list.
  7. Hello gentlemen I have plans to purchase few tsuba this month. List practically ready. I am pretty confident on most of the items I have picked, but not sure about this one. Would like to see if my estimates are correct. Photos are not great, but this is all I have. I think this is a Katchushi. Period, possibly early Edo. Motif is Aoi leafs and feathers. Diameter is 9cm. Thank you in advance Vitaly
  8. Hi Dale Thank you for the link, very interesting tsuba there! To me above tsuba is far more delicate. And design itself looks more archaic, older.. Any idea on the spiral? The only thing that comes to my mind is young fern. As per listing description, I , for some reason doubt that this is Aizu. But I have no experience in this and may be mistaking. Regards Vitaly
  9. Hello gentlemen I am making attempts in my own judgements. Found this one. I knew I have seen similar motif in the books. Quick browsing brought up this Although the composition is different, there are many similarities. ( Shape of the Suzumushi, this cutout on the side of the seppa dai..) Question is: Could be the first one Akasaka too? Regards Vitaly
  10. This book is very interesting. It also gives you info on the motif etc.
  11. Thank you, Steve! Could you please tell me , is Suzuki Kanju/ Hirotoshi included in the book 刀装小道具銘字大系? If yes which volume?
  12. Hello gentlemen I am seeking for some clarification or info on the name "Kanju" Recently I have bought this tsuba I was told that Mei reads"Suzuki Kanju" I tried to find anything about this master But nothing, apart from this tsuba To me "Kanju" carving is practically identical. Then in the book I found this: It says "Reads Motonaga" Can anyone tell something about this man? Regards Vitaly
  13. Golden one in the wooden box is sold.

  16. Hello gentlemen I was wondering, what this symbol in mei means? Regards Vitaly
  17. Holy moly, I have managed to recognize this mei in the book!
  18. Wow! Gentlemen, I am overwhelmed with quality information! To summarize ( I will use new words I have learned ) This tsuba is mid range pre-made. Decoration made in nunome zogan technique, which is adequate to the overall craftsmanship of this piece. Popular design ( still very attractive) Deshi (apprentice) Kinai tsuba of the rokudai ( sixth generation) period. All above convinced me to purchase it, so I did. Last request. Could someone give me exact translation of the mei. With respect Vitaly
  19. Thank you @GRC and @Geraint Very helpful. I do realize that this is not High class tsuba. I believe proper ones if this design would cost more than 500€. As long as it original I will be happy. As I mentioned I really like the motif. In situations like this, it always comes to the price tag. I guess it worth 120€ seller wants. Kind regards vitaly
  20. Hello gentlemen I am looking at this tsuba. I like this aoi leafs motif. Have seen already like 20 different tsuba with the same design, but they all looked very poorly executed. Also I can see hatching under brocken inlay. Don't know about the signature. Is this an authentic piece?
  21. Thank you all very, very much! It was as always very helpful, educational and of course very interesting. Based on all information received, I think I will get the last one if price is right. Then if I get it, I will make better pictures and we will revisit it again Regards Vitaly
  22. Hi Florian Thank you! Very precise observation! Now I can see that! Once again you are correct. Thorough study of the photos showing evidence of rubbing I guess that is s a "no" for this piece. But that is not necessarily a bad thing? We definitely have something quite old and good, but perhaps with some later "improvements"?
  23. Hi Jean Thank you so much! I always appreciate your opinion! Just one question: When saying: "new/recent" do you refer to Edo/ Meiji?
  24. Hi Dan. Thank you for this, very Interesting... I guess the first one is a purely decorative piece. It looks and feels like cast.. However this thing is my very first one and possibly will be with me for good ( I am sentimental sometimes) I really understand your scientific interest in the subject. Sincerely wish you luck to find something that hopefully supports your theories! I do like research myself and know exactly how difficult it is. Especially if all resources, how can I put it.."slightly difficult to read" Regards Vitaly
  25. Hello gentlemen. As I go deeper into the subject, I face more difficulties with terminology, dating etc I have picked few tsuba for potential purchase, and this time I need more extensive understanding of the following items: (I will try to use some terms. Please correct me if I am wrong, and add if I am missing something.) 1. These two. I really like the texture. Very raw, but elegant at the same time. So, shape is maru-gata. Fat edge - hira dotemimi, other one is uchigaeshi mimi. What technique is called? Period ? 2. This one features inlay (how this technique called, nunome zogan?) and cutouts here are "ko-sukashi" Plus I guess triangle is a Mon. Edge is "maru Mimi"? Is this Shoami piece? 3. The last one Can't say anything yet about it. Will be delighted to learn about shape, techniques etc Oh! Rays are "amida yasuri" Looking forward for your comments! Regards Vitaly
