  1. A lot of rust on this one and roughly carved. The school escapes me and I am not at home for my books. The shape is interesting but not one of my favorites.
  2. OK, here is an interesting one. A modern day tsuba carved from a slice of a meteorite. Has anybody ever heard of something like this? It is definitely modern work but weird. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Meteorite-Tsuba ... 4d17361723
  3. I would also go with the Yoshimichi. You will also make out on the money end.
  4. Very nice, indeed!
  5. Not really sure but my best guess would agree with you as Higo. Very nice tsuba though. I like the design very much.
  6. Hi Alan, Welcome to the board. I like this tsuba very much. Are you sure it is shakudo? It looks more like iron to me.
  7. I agree, mid-edo.
  8. A good question, Brian. I would certainly not agree with the idea that only papered swords are worthy of preservation. I have a gimei katana which is very well made and I certainly feel it is worthy of preservation. A thought that I have is that it is a good idea to have examples of all types (gimei, mumei and authentic signature) so that people can see the history of nihonto and see what was done with the blades.
  9. Hi Adam, You might also try these two links: http://home.earthlink.net/~jggilbert/tsuba.htm http://shibuiswords.com/ Lots of good info in both places.
  10. Definitely Chinese. Sorry that we are the bearers of bad news. On the other hand welcome to the board. Please sign your name as per board regulations
  11. Thanks Pete , I guess my eyes are getting bad LOL. Merry Christmas everyone!!!
  12. Interestingly enough, I was also reading the same book yesterday and was thinking about the exact same statement. I have always been of the opinion that you look at the blade first and the papers are a nice plus because as Barry says, it makes it easier to sell if you want to. A friend of mine also told me the same thing. Look for and get quality whether papered or not.
  13. It is very nice Stephen, but not as eye-catching as the first one (Glad I logged in when I did because I am sure it won't be around very long). Happy holidays to everyone!!!!
  14. It may just be that my eyes are bad. but does anyone see a yokote on this blade? The shape of the kissaki bothers me and reminds me of some Chinese fakes.
  15. Nice find Chris. Looking forward to seeing some more pictures.

    Welcome Kyler.
  17. You are right, but I am not sure that the books are easily available to everyone.
  18. Excellent reference site. Thank-you James.
  19. Very nice Tsuba .
  20. Welcome Tom, Hope you find much knowledge and enjoyment here.
  21. I think it is a very nice find :D
  22. Hi Jason, What John is saying is that this does not look like Goto.

    New Tsuba

Hi Mark, a picture of it and some dimensions would be a lot of help in identifying it.

    New Tsuba

Hi everyone, This is an Ebay tsuba I picked up inexpensively. The iron is a little dry but not too bad and not much rust on it. Here are the dimensions: Diameter: 7.2 cm Mimi - .42 cm thick Seppa Dai - .55 cm thick My best guess on this is a Higo (possibly Hayashi School), mid Edo Tsuba of bracken or fern shoots. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
