    Tsuba help

Hi all, I have aquired this tsuba that I intend to mount so info will not be used for commercial purposes. Iron, 3" high and 2 7/8" across. It has a shakudo rim. Theme, I think is reeds and these seem to be silvered copper. There seems to be the remains of a signature but I would think it's mission impossible to work out due to damage around the ana. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Mark
  2. OK, wild guess, perforator's of some sort, maybe used for paper/plastic. Mark C
  3. Hi Jacques, Very interesting read thanks. I to am wondering about the no Nengo part as I have also a Tanto with just "hachi gatsu" on one side and just "Izumi no Kami" on the other. I will be putting this in for the UK shinsa soon and will post the outcome. Again, thanks for the info. Regards Mark

  7. Hi Ian and all, Brilliant idea. On the Police idea, I did try offering my services at my local police station when the last knives amnesty happened but was politelty told to go away Maybe if my local police station was to receive a letter from one of the two Societies that I belong to, they might listen. Regards Mark

    Kashira

Hi John, Brian, Thanks for the info, makes a good informative read. Its a shame mine isn't like that one   John - The Kashira is made of a soft non-magnetic metal, a small scratch (already done before i obtained) on the inside reveals a copper/brass colour. The shells are of copper. Yes, I relalised that it wasn't of great quality by the carving of the waves and I put the shell details down to wear. Again, many thanks Regards Mark

    Kashira

Hi All, Know very little about these but here goes. Wave pattern with various sea shells, The unusual thing (haven't seen one before) is that the gold rim that runs around the bottom edge of the Kashira is part of an insert (picture). Is this a sign of a better made Kashira Any help on age would also be a great help. Many Thanks Regards Mark

    Help with sword

Hi All, I have just purchased this sword. It was as shinny as a mirror and after an hour with some finger stones I have reveiled a lovely hamon in nie. In fact I will be putting this baby in the safe for a polish sometime in the future, Some details below: Nagasa=21 3/8" Width at habaki=1 1/4" Thickness at habaki=5/16" Width at yokote=7/8" Thickness at yokote=3/16" Sori=7/16" The Tang is signed "Fujiwara Moriyuki", I think It is quite a heavy little beast :D In my limited library I can't find a comparison Mei, Does any have a comparison so that I can see if the mei is somewhere near right or way off Many thanks Regards Mark

  22. Hi All, Many thanks for all your thoughts on my new aquisition. Excellent links Brian and Guido, it has cleared the length question a little. I have attached a couple of pics, one of the mounts, nothing special, someone has robbed the menuki and added rather crudely made horn fuchi and kashira. the other pic is a closeup on part of the hamon. Again, many thanks for all your thoughts/comments. Regards Mark
  23. Hi All, Thanks for that. The link is very interesting reading, thanks Brian. I have attached a couple of pics of the sword, Width between Hamachi and Munemachi is 1 3/16" wide. Brian, if you want to move this to another section, please do. Again many thanks Regards Mark

  25. Hi, Collected bayonets since I was a lad and swapped my collection (about 40) 6 years ago for my first Showa gunto Have made a lot of mistakes along my short journey, would have made a lot more if it wasn't for the kind help from all on this and the previous message board. Spent a lot on books, gone to various shows and have been swapping and adding to my collection ever since. Regards Mark
