    Kaga koshirae

Sorry i don’t have much experience and knowledge on what good koshirae is, that was the reason using the word “guess”: (it looks fancy though) so my question is, as you know samurai wear two swords. And in some old photos, they wear two swords on samurai armor as well. I believe tachi is worn only with armors, not with daily clothes. Did the owner of this sword wore this on a samurai armor? If so, did he change koshirae to katana when he switched to daily clothing?

    Kaga koshirae

I guess its a good koshirea. But i have a question. It does not look like a regular katana koshirea, looks more like the ones they wear on battlegrounds. if this koshirae was made specifically for the blade, which you said is a Naokatsu(if not gimei of course), koshirae was made in the 19th century? Who would wear this in the 19th century?
  4. I don't have an answer but I have an additional question as well. What I've read about Handachi is they became popular on the 19th century.(I might be wrong) What about Tachi koshirae? I've read that they've been making those fancy tachi koshirae also in the 19th century but who was wearing them? I don't think Samurai would walk around with tachi koshirae so was it a ceremonial thing?
  5. If you don't mind I have a question to ask. Is this a quality koshirea? Other Tachi koshirea I've been seeing have more orange and gold..what makes this one special? Do you know how old it is? Leather wrap looks old and damaged. Is it expensive if you want to buy it alone without the blade?
  6. Wow! What school is this? Is that a tachi? And what's inside?
  7. Well its neither chip nor crack so seller wasn’t lying.
  8. I don't have a great knowledge but I'm learning everyday. What worries me is the large fukure on the hamon area. I believe it will be a tough job for the polisher to remove it right? It looks very deep. So it's 2300 + polish..another 2k?
  9. What do you mean by better hamon? Whats wrong with its hamon?
  10. Don't you know what you bought?
  11. Thank you Dirk. For sure Paul Martin loves publicity.

  16. Hi guys, I was passing by a garage sale today and noticed a sword. Seller, an old British lady, told me Japanese gifted this to her father and was very dear to him. It didn’t have any papers or signature so it was a bargain and would be foolish not to risk it so I bought it. Have a couple questions..is it hand made or machine made in war? if handmade, how old do you think? It has a hamon but very thin, not like wavily like others I’ve been seeing. Also got a medal as a gift. I will upload a video and some pictures in a minute. Thanks a lot. https://streamable.com/c5u2w9
  17. Hi, Might sound silly but i have a question. Do you know how long steel(tamahagane) would last with proper care? I know there are blades from 11th-12th century which have been taken care of properly but do you think they will last another 1000 years with care? What about the integrity of the steel? Do you think the steel weakens with time? Let me ask you like this, do you think a 13th-14th century sword would be broken if you try to cut bamboo with it?(of course i have no intention to do this)
  18. Hello, I'm interested but do you know which Norimitsu is he? I've checked but there are 50 Norimitsu in the database most of them are Bizen. `
