  1. Thank you for the info. I had been wondering if you could possibly date a Type 95 based off of its serial number but from what I had been looking up it seemed that there wasn't an official list or anything. Just a couple collectors keeping track of the serial numbers. Looking forward to possibly hearing more info on that. It seems like it's somewhat similar to oiling firearms, apply a light coat and wipe off the excess. That was one of my concerns was having the blade to "wet" and getting the inside of the scabbard wet. Thank you again for all the info you have given me in the short time I've been here.
  2. Thank you for the info and link. I'll keep the choji oil in mind. From what I can tell mine looks to be the 9mm brass Tsuba, correct?
  3. Is there any way to date it to a specific year? From what I understand it was made Early War, but are there any indictors to pin it to a specific year like 1940? If not then by Early War I assume the years of manufacture would be 1939-1941, correct? Also I have one more question. In regards to "maintenance" of the sword I've seen people say you should oil the blade and not let it dry out, is there a certain type of oil that is recommended or would standard Hoppes/Ballistol work? Thank you.
  4. I've noticed this when looking up prices. They seem to vary greatly, especially when its being sold by dealers.
  5. Excited to be picking up this Tokyo Suya Type 95. From what I understand it is a early war model. Matching scabbard and blade but the scabbard has the last digit either being covered with paint or is a light strike, this was discussed in another thread I recently posted about stamping errors(I'll include a link to the thread at the end of the post). Seller said you can see the last digit in person but just barely. This is my first Type 95 and in general my first Japanese sword. Anyone have a rough value for these. Thanks for if any info is given. https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/42467-lightmisstrikes-type-95-serial-numbers-common/#comment-435390
  6. Thanks for the info guys. Wanted to make sure everything was in order before purchasing it. I figured the scabbard was matching to the sword and the 3 is just under the paint like Bruce said or a light strike. Thanks again.
  7. Here's some pics of the sword. Contemplating picking this one up. Everything looks good to me from the little knowledge I have lol. From what I have been informed it is a Early War Tokyo Suya. As you can see the serial number on the blade is 41423 and on the scabbard it is 4142. I assume its almost impossible for a collector/faker/soldier in field to find the scabbard that has the exact same numbers as the sword but is missing only the last digit. Thank you for the help you have given me in the little time I have been on this forum.
  8. Saw a Type 95 nco sword w/ scabbard and the scabbards serial number is the exact same serial number as the sword but is missing the last number. I can't tell if its a light/misstrike or if its just not there at all. User said you could see the number faintly in person, but very faintly. Was wondering if light/misstrikes were common to see on Type 95s. I would assume its a light/misstrike on this scabbard since it seems like it would be pretty difficult to obtain a scabbard with the serial number being exactly like the sword but being just 1 digit short. Thanks.
  9. Thanks guys for all the quick replies. Hoping to pick this one up.
  10. Hi guys. Pretty new to Japanese Sword collecting and I'm looking to possibly pick up my first one. I was wondering what your guys opinions are on this sword. From what I've read on this forum and on other sites the markings seem to be correct(I think), orientation of the serial number on the blade looks to be correct for the manufacturer, the bohi doesn't have a huge gap from where the brass is on the blade(don't know the correct name of the brass). But there are tons of other variables that I don't know about yet and was hoping you guys could possibly help. From the information I have received it is a Tokyo production mid-war example. The seller informed me that the serial number on the scabbard matches the blade and that he's going to get a pic of it. Another question I have is is the Flower marking with the line in the middle on the Fuchi known yet? From what I've read it is still unknown. Thank you for any help you guys can give.
