  1. Satsuma Rebellion pieces. I've owned a few..they all had either tired kizu infested old blades or ubu 19th century mystery ones. Fittings were wonky as well...
  2. Cardiologist? Don't waste your money bro...I got a mean little Xacto set man....
  3. There were a couple of Masauji's running around during the Showa era, I'm inclined to believe this one was running an air hammer to manufacture blades like mine and we can call it superior machine made...
  4. I see lamination "itame"in other areas and assume it's Gendai..it was a vet's son walk in at bud's pawn shop many years ago...the rest of the blade is primo war time polish...
  5. After a gracious translation here on my Masa Uji Bishu shingunto I have a question. Looking at the following pics, there is an anomaly @2/3 the way down the blade that seems to gap the otherwise perfect hamon and shows a window of lamination. Was this a defect in the quenching process?I know Masauji was a little known Showato smith, but I see no arsenal stamps and lots of activity in the hamon . The blade and fittings are minty and a surrender tag is attached. Just not sure why the hamon seemed washed out here on both sides.
  6. My copper tsuka 95 is my fave, dunno why... maybe the bullet hole in the saya...
  7. I'm in no way as advanced a collector as some of you gents, but I have aquired a thing or two of Imperial Japanese over the last 30 years of the hobby. Just for fun I thought I'd shoot a group pic of my humble gunto to collection to share. From the top...a standard IJA shingunto with Masa Uji Gendai blade, next a Kaigunto with Gendai 23rd gen Kanefusa blade,a T3 or '44 pattern with Showato arsenal blade, dated Feb'45.. a t95 copper tsuka,a alum. t95..a late wood tsuka t95...and a naval dirk....
  8. Type 95 copper handle that caught a strafe from two projectiles in the scabb...the blade is fine indicating it was out and in service during the shooting...
  9. It appears the nco was doing the Banzai thing when a belt fed mg clipped him midstream..one hit was a bounce off(lead core) and then an AP round in the 1919 belt pierced the saya like butter...just my hypothesis....
  10. This is a copper handle/tsuka T95 NCO that a late friend aquired many years ago at a militaria show.It has some cool battle damage on the saya and a nice clean blade.Tje numbers don't match but my guess is it got MMd at some early point ...what are the odds of finding a Cu handle saya to compliment it post war?. One question I have is the grey primer color of the saya.Ive seen this on other copper handles and think it may be a primer coat. There is typical army green on some surfaces still present. Anybody have any input on this gray paint?
  11. Thank you Sir...the tag was attached as a surrender item also...
  12. Greetings all. I have recently acquired a shingunto from a late friend that I can't quite nail down the Smith on. It appears to be layered in the traditional method by some areas of grain structure and in fair polish.I can decipher the Bishu kanji at the top of the mei but the rest is a challenge for my translator app. Any help is appreciated..thanks..
