Hi, I was thinking of starting a new topic but since there is already one with the same title (although somewhat old...) I preferred to include a new post. Surfing the internet I found what I think is snakeskin in a kaigunto for sell. Addtional info: Theoretically the blade (Kiyonobu Okumura) is from 1940, although there are no photos of that side of the nakago to confirm the date. Any thoughts? Can you help me confirm the type of skin? I have searched the forum but have not found anything quite similar. Thank you, Mario

Hi, The Suya Sho Then logo presented on page 73 of Otto Maxein's book "Samurai swords for the Material battle" is identical to that of the Type 95, although in this case on the nakago of a gendaito with a Type 98 mount. Mario

Questions to more versed members: Can it be concluded that this is an end-of-war example, based on the absence of engraving on the fuchi, etc? I thought that the use of a glossy lacquered saya indicated the reuse of a civilian saya and probably a traditionally made blade...but I don't know if this is correct. It seems that it is not... I hope the answers are of interest to James, otherwise it will look like I'm hijacking his thread. Regards

Hi, It seems that the seller was referring to the kuchigane. It seems that it was replaced by one of the Type 98. If during the war or recently I understand it is impossible to confirm. Jim, in this other Ohmura page (which complements the one Rob indicated) you can check the differences between both kuchigane directly, being the correct one iron and black paint (matching with the rest of the fittings). http://ohmura-study.net/905.html Regards
