  1. They are the "best", because a handful of self appointed "experts" in this venue say they are. Everyone else falls in line and agrees. It's visual, not performance tested with todays Tech. Art is subjective, it is, what it is.
  2. Check this out http://www.japaneseswordindex.com/measure.htm You can give us some measurements. Doesn't look like you scratched it in an attempt to clean it, but advise to stop. That rust is much deeper than it looks, it always is.
  3. When I bought into the hobby in 95 the Yen was $1.12. Today it's .77 and falling. The top swords will be safe from the Japanese crumbling economy, but the lower end ( most collectors) prices will fall. Restoration prices have been the same for 20 years that I know of. I'm into exporting, so I understand the international supply chain issues. Come October we'll see how low, low is. Then again, I bought my son Pokémon Japanese cards when they first came out and they're sky high.
  4. It's an old American saying, I'm dead and my kid gets taxed to death unless I have a good probate attorney. Lets say I have 2 or more Juyo blades and I pass. Because my estate is so large and assessor comes in and says, my collection is worth $150K. That's a taxable number. I made the mistake of listing my Art on a bank note once along with other assets.
  5. Now, those are numbers and a definition I can believe.
  6. Coin collecting and sports cards are a prolific hobby, Nihonto is as obscure as it gets. Ask 100,000 people if they've ever heard of the words. Nihonto, meteor collecting, or dinosaur bones. There is your Juyo answer. A niche of a niche of a niche.
  7. Do you really assume me and my elk are apathetic and apologetic? You're playing in the wrong sand box LOL. PNSSHOGUN We have this adjusted income, after expenses. Our Net-Net is taxed that high. One thing for sure in America, death and tax. I really would like the definition of ""museum quality"? Is that the "stuff" which is sold at the back door???
  8. I pay 2 Juyo swords worth of Tax's and that's no Shift.
  9. For there "time" IMO Awataguchi blades were the best made, but that was at the "time". The Western market loves the flamboyancy of the Shinto - Shinshinto hamon times.
  10. I remember in early 2000's the NCJSC in America had 200 members and that was from collectors from all over, some internationally. If America has fizzled out with it's great GDP the hobby is more obscure then I thought. Many of the old guard have passed and collected what I define as very high quality. What defines museum quality and the finest swords, I regress.
  11. What I can say, people with museum quality pieces of anything are smart enough not to publicize it on any forum.
  12. I'm not sure that statement is wrong when considering "continents". America is probably one of the largest for Nihonto.
  13. Comparison is a good thing, if people are mature enough to keep the debate civil. If everyone agrees on a hypothesis, something is very wrong. Again, debate makes us better as long as it's civil.
  14. We can't debate the G.O.A.T, because everything changes with time in it's own time. Everyone is made up with different DNA, thus have different opinions. This hypothesis has been proven over centuries an argumentized. A controlled group of people will all see, hear and smell something different.
  15. I'm also a visual leaner. I think you asked about why GIMEI. BTW a good friend of mine one best record with his drag bike at Bonneville and I know many top designers in CA. He's 6.4 and wore pink leathers as a joke.
  16. I suggest you watch the movie documentary "Sour Grapes". You'll see a lot of collecting similarities.
  17. ayasugi hada is not the apparent sugata, or the apparent sugata is not ayasugi hada,
  18. I'm interested in your drag racing, what drag track do you use? What racing school did you attend and what car?
  19. Economy at the time of sales dictates much in middle market items. Tegai Kanekiyo https://www.samuraimuseum.jp/shop/product/antique-Japanese-sword-katana-attributed-to-tegai-kanekiyo-nbthk-tokubetsu-hozon-certificate/
  20. Obvious you don't understand what it takes to drive on a regulation track. It's called a "Racing License" and their are degrees of License. How do I know this, ever hear of Outlaw Racing? What kind of name is Dark-Con?
  21. No, keep those $100K sports car owners off the track and the streets. It never goes well!
  22. Who was the curator of the Asiatic collection in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts by name?. I didn't know The Fred Lohman company restored historic objects for the Boston Museum of Fine Arts?
  23. Greatly shorten something - or other that's 500years old, looking at the Nakago. Nakago appears by "photos" not in great shape. Other than that, looks like you received what you paid for.
  24. For some reason over the last decade, or so ( I'm being facetious ) hadori has been incentivized. It fits in with selling photos, so love to see it in hand.
  25. Someone who wants to win
