  1. I agree with Rokujuro. Photos of a beatup sword even with good photos (and yours aren't). Find someone who knows what they are doing (in hand) This keyboard collectors diagnoses only goes so fare.
  2. NICE Most don't understand the Boshi is the most difficult and the most important.
  3. Nice catch. What's the Nagasa? Opps, I see it now.
  4. For some reason collectors go to the extremes with these green papers. Not "all of them" are shady.
  5. MOP * The seller lost all credibility a generation or so ago. Like Mr. Kantei wouldn't allow a Masamune to slipping thru his fingers.
  6. That's about it. Simple enough for the majority who want to know "if authentic" and "Whats it worth". Why
  7. Why am I here??? I'm here wanting to know why "Art Swords" haven't appreciated in the last 35 years. ??? I'm here wanting to know why veteran polishers are making what they did $ 35 years ago. BTW veteran polishers make what my Gardner does about $35Hr.??? I'm here wanting to know why Japanese Shinsa is so laxed ??? I'm here wanting to know why so many Keyboard Collectors are reinforcing poor observation skills when it comes to photo's. ??? I'm here wanting to know why the same "old" grifters are still guarding the Hens House??? I can keep writing about why I'm here but I'm sure you get the clues "Smokey". "What the hell does your post even mean???" AH - HA This polishing is Well.... lets look at Japans crumbling economy and that will give you a hint about "My Posts". People are going to spend there own money however they dam well please and on whatever they dam well want. The only thing you can do is "Try" an educate.
  8. Do you really believe "I need help with this sword" isn't smart enough to do a search??? "samurai sword restoration near me" If anything they are receiving a education in "sword restoration".
  9. I like to see what I call, "Back of closet finds". These look like they have some beef to them. Can you provide measurements https://www.Japanese...ndex.com/measure.htm
  10. Yep, without the accolades of Dallas and all the loughs of SouthPark.
  11. I have a lot more faith in Science and not much in todays Shinsa Team. Much has changed in the last 30 years. My DNA goes back to Rome and Southern Italy. Then again could of been descendants of slavery .
  12. If collectors believe Shinsa is going to admit being wrong
  13. I would offer to sell a few broken rocks on my Ranch. They smell good and are very old.
  14. Finally a sword worth looking at and studying. Congratulation on your Juyo.
  15. Analyzing a sword is best done by hand NOT with photos, Analyzing is also BEST done by someone who is competent in a "sword club" in person. Find a sword club!!!
  16. Permits are the last thing anyone should be thinking about. Koshirae is on the scale of poor for a TH sword. Suriagi - Shorted Shirasaya - Check out the other NEW Shirasaya on other of there listings. Same ..... Polish* Looks just like other shinto listings on the same page with the same new Shirasaya . Poor ...... Papers- I don't look at them for this very reason. They didn't mismark the price. It's twice as low as it shoud be for a reason. Looking at it in hand isn't going to help much respectively, because you don't have an idea what your looking at. Remember, they are in the business to sell. This is a shrewd business.
  17. The largest issue in this very small community, collectors don't understand what a superior polish looks like. The top 20 Togishi outside Japan can't make a dent in the market. So who's polishing 98% of the others? The unexperienced shortcutters who believe they can self start practicing on "whatever". Most undoubtfully its your sword and not swords bought by them for practice. It's the sword mills and auctions which are looked at as "good deals".
  18. Yep, I've dealt with Satsuma, Cloisonne. Japanese bronze inlay vase for some time too. Sword Smiths actually were into vase manufacturing.
  19. Nice wood box with stickers
  20. Been reading up here and ordering a few books recommended here. Ah, so you're at point zero and looking for a sword. Can you see why this sword isn't going for double and triple $$$$$$/ ???
  21. Ya ,,,,,,,,,,,,no kidding they are rubbish. Swords, Vases, Cars, I don't favor auction houses!!!
  22. s Satsuma vases late 19c-20c well done go for $700 pair in most West Coast midlevel antiques stores. Bonhams is off there rocker.
  23. The solution for 500-1000$ blades is DON;T BUY THEM. They are worth about 0. Japan auctions are selling these NOT the USA.
  24. This was written in 1999 for a generation of collectors who understood masterful tradition. These aren't those time anymore, masterful tradition has about 10 more years until complete failure. It truly sad for humanity.
  25. Most of the key board collectors who say "this guy does an ok polish". They don't have a clue, thus the status of "Amateur". It doesn't cost so much and one doesn't have to wait.
