    Thanks John. Are these papered?
  2. Umetada?
  3. Great initiative Paul. If I'm there, then I'll be there. You know what I mean
  4. Nice guard David. Well done!

    Joi or no joy??

    No probs Ford.

    Joi or no joy??

Ford, I accept that is gimei. I was talking in general terms about mei in restricted space being different to mei on items with more space.

    Joi or no joy??

Thanks Ford. I agree that the mei is not very well cut compared to the kozuka in your post. The size of the mei on my fuchi is tiny (difficult to show in photos). I think this is gimei, however I assume that sometimes small mei in a confined space are different to much larger mei where space isn't a problem?

    Joi or no joy??

Thanks Junichi. I am checking the books now too, so hopefully I'll pull up some other examples for comparison. Yes Stephen. Dale has some great fuchi (and many other fittings) in his collection. Although I wasn't able to reunite these fuchi with their matching kashira, at least I could put them together in a custom box. I think they work well together.

    Joi or no joy??

Just wanted to get people's opinion on the mei on the second fuchi (with Kanzan). Big name. Most likely gimei, but would just like to check. http://tosogucollection.com/2014/03/09/ ... han-fuchi/ Thanks for any help.
  10. Sorry, I thought it was judged best in show by the shinsa team. It is a nice tsuba David. A good pick up.
  11. Looks like chysanthemums and plum blossom. Although this is a nice tsuba, I would be disappointed if this was the best at the show.
  12. Shoki is consistent with other examples, however the Oni is not. They are usually leaner and have a more ferocious expression. It is also interesting that he is carrying a lantern. Here is an example from my collection: http://tosogucollection.com/2013/12/23/ ... tadatsugu/ As you can see the Oni on the reverse is very different to yours.

    Sendai fittings

Robert Haynes recently looked at a photo of a fuchi/kashira that I own and said they were most likely Sendai work (copy of a Goto piece). He said the craftsman from Sendai copied lots of different schools and were quite skilled artisans in their own right. I am checking my references now for any information about the Sendai school; however I thought I might ask if anyone has already researched this topic.
  14. Schönen Dank Ludolf. Your help is much appreciated.
  15. Thanks Ludolf. I might send you a better photo once I receive this fuchi (have just bought it).
  16. I also wanted to ask your advice on this mei. Thanks very much.
  17. I thought the attached signature might be Hideshige, however I can't find any reference. Any help would be appreciated.
  18. Thanks guys. Looks like a bad gimei of Kato Teruaki. I appreciate your help.
  19. Thanks Junichi. I have no idea how you got that. It looks nothing like the kanji in Haynes Index (H01868.0).
  20. Can anyone help with the attached mei? I have tried my books and nihonto kanji pages but I can't work it out. Sorry for the quality of the photo. This is all I have. Thanks in advance for any help.
  21. Wonderful menuki Curran. Thanks for posting. I must admit I was a bit like Junichi and couldn't understand why these were so expensive. Now I get it.
  22. Wow. That's big money. I guess the numbers stamped into the plate don't affect value too much. Was there any provenance? If you could link the numbers to a museum or big time collector then they might actually enhance the value.
  23. Look at the faces. You can tell the quality (or lack of) from the faces.
  24. Made for the export market. Look at the nakago-ana in comparison to the seppa dai in number two. A little off centre lol.
  25. Mid Edo (1700's)
