    Cast tsuba?

Hi Rob, hold the tsuba with two fingers on one point near the mimi and hit it slightly on a stone surface. Cast iron should engender a lumpish or hushed tone than wrought iron. Don`t know if it works in any case, but I was able to sort out a cast tsuba from an wakizashi koshirae (vexed eb.... :x ) this way. Uwe
  8. .....based on nakago jiri and the shape of the blade Uwe
  9. As a shoot in the dark..............I bet, an remounted earlier blade. And to keep the dice rolling...........shinto piece Uwe
  10. In a few days I`ll reach the 48............ Time is running so fast As a former bayonet collector (since my earliest youth) I started even with the obligatory, unpolished, gimei koto wak ( ..... wakizashi) about 20 years ago in exchange for an K98. That was the beginning of all the "trouble", 9 years later though. I kept the suspected offender until jet, although it`s far beyond restoration and I spotted the mei still not. Meanwhile, I became interested in both Nihonto and Nihon Katchu. Unfortunately, that`s a bit to much for my wallet........and the nerves of my wife So I decided, to sell the whole stored bayonet collection for my first (and only) gusoku. I never regretted. I`m fascinated by koto blades, mainly of the yamato tradition or related schools. However, my little collection don`t reflect this fact. Yamato blades are even not the cheapest by any manner of means Greetings from Germany Uwe

    for $175 on ebay

Hi Jock, nice find. Looks a bit like nagamaki naoshi, or done in this style. Bought a similar one on e-bay years ago (as a newbie ) after polishing it turned out as an flawless tegai blade. I think, this is called Luck. Well, Reinhard get it on the nail in only one point. Newbies shouldn't do so It`s dangerous out there and without a proper knowledge background, buying unpolished questionable blades is the best way to waste money (discussed many times here) Furthermore I can`t share the view of Reinhard (whether German or not). I sensed the statement as disproportionate and unhelpfully. Sorry Reinhard. We had to take care not to frighten newbies or other collectors this way. Uwe
  19. ..........what you measured is kasane :D Saki haba = width at kisaki Moto haba = width at machi Uwe PS: What Stephen mentioned above, please sign your posts with your real name. It`s one of the few rules on this board
  20. I don`t think so. But "we" need to know: moto haba, saki haba and kasane........and the sword in hand Uwe
  21. Hi Jock, regarding the mon "Maru ni chigai-taka no ha" is quite common. First guess, Asano , Daimyo at Hiroshima in Aki. Although, one have to consider the color. For example, the Abe family used this mon too in a brown color. Furthermore, I`m with Pete Uw
  22. Hmmm..... there are some flaws and some pitting in the kisaki area. Otherwise, rather long waki with apparently darker steel surface. Yasurime, hada and boshi indistinguishable. Hamon, partly midare based sugu-ha mixed with..?.., maybe nioi-deki Shape leads me to koto / late muromachi. Hehe....seems to be a game of dice without further informations :? I`m sure there are more knowledgeable people around here...............hey folks come on, brainstorming  Uwe
  23. Hi Shinigami117S.....? Quite difficult to tell you anything with substance based on the pics. The nakago looks very odd to me, obviously dilettantish modified Some close up from kissaki and mune would be good........ Uwe
  24. Agree with Gabriel. The swords are lit very well.........with one or two exceptions. Unfortunately, it`s strictly not allowed to take any pics Uwe
