  1. thank you very much for your help, Markus! what is you opinion in general about this tanto, i'm risking to look immodest, but i would like to understand the ration between quality of blade(mountings seem very nice), value and indicated price. I've interest to obtain such Naval dirk(if it can be called so) thank you very much in advance for your help and time. If anybody else could add his opinion, i would very grateful.
  2. pity i didn't know about it earlier:( I would appreciate to receive your opinion about two tantoes in Naval mounts, especially about #492. Also, my Japanese is bellow ground level... Can anybody be so kind to translate descriptions?....

  5. Hello Everyone, there are 3 tanto on e-bay sale, represented as pilot daggers. I'm interested in Japanese militaria and looking to obtain Kami Kaze pilot tanto, but they are quite rare to find and there are plenty of fakes. As my knowlage is still far from good, i'd highly appreciate your opinion about these 3 items. 1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0357007577 Seller sent me some bigger pics. they are to big to attach, so i put them in imagevenue: 2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0330261383 i have doubts if its pilots tanto even if its real - mounts does not meet "standard" issue... 3. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0374782451 it looks quite nice, but i have doubts about blade.. unfortunately, picture of tang is unavailable.. thank you very much in advance for your time and help best regards, Vaidas
  6. there is another one for $425 on e-bay. but it seems crazy...
  7. Dear Jacques, i'm sure you underestimate yourself could you be so kind to write what kind of book you are waiting to receive? i'm very interested in Japanese military on official's swords and dirks, however i find very limited resources i worship J.Dawson and still hunting Mr. Fuller's book about Military and civil swords and dirks, but maybe there are some other publishes?
  8. thank you, Brian, i also think that its railway junior officials dirk. I compared it with descpription i have and found no differences, but maybe Mr. Jacques saw something more?
  9. could be more specific, please? you think its fake?
  10. thank you very much for your help
  11. Hello everyone, there is this dagger on e-bay. Its represented as Navy, but i believe its railway official's. There is hamon line clearly visible and i would be grateful to get your opinion is it real or artificial. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of tang. my rookie's opinion that is not real, but maybe... thank you in advance for your help. Vaidas http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0287954452
  12. thank you very much, Stephen!
  13. thank you, Brian. I definitely won't hang myself because of this. Ce la vi - got good lesson. Plus, its not i Chinese junk i'm a bit concerned to find right person to re-wrap tsuka. There aren't any in my region - at least i don't know...
  14. thank you all for your help. James - your phrase is worth kg of gold - i'll put in on my desktop i don't think there is chance of refund as description is very very small. Well... we got saying that dumb is beaten even in church... I'll consider this as expensive lesson and try not to do anything stupid in future...
  15. Hello Matt, thank you for your post. i should get the sword within 7-10 days, then i'll be able to make better pics. So far it seems that i was when decided to buy it as overall it will cost me over $900...
  16. Hello everyone, i obtained this sword recently, mostly because its late war shin-gunto. i was on trip and couldn't compare it with J.Dowson's book and other resources and now, after closer examination of pictures, i have feeling that something is not good with tsuka - looks like tsuka-ito was re-wrapped. I'd appreciate your opinion about that. however, the biggest concern is blade. I think the best i can expect its machine made under supervision of the smith. Seller described it tang signed as Yoshitsugu Seki 10 /1944. but i have some doubts - Showa mark looks strange. I checked in geocities and found 3 Yoshitsugu names, but neither's signature looks similar to mine... I'm really inexperienced in Japanese traditionally made swords and signatures and maybe my doubts appeared only due to that. In that case i'd be very happy to admit my mistake(i'd only gain from that ) E-bay seller also looks impressive and solid. anyway i would be grateful to receive your opinion about this sword - be it good or bad, including that i should check more closely before buying i'm sorry for quality of pictures - those i got from seller and e-bay. i'm still waiting for a sword to wrrive. thank you very much in advance, best regards, Vaidas
  17. they are quite OK. Earlier you had to register imported edged weapon at police(and to pay small fee, of course ), now you don't need that - just to pay taxes to customs ~2.5% tax and 19% VAT. Actually, just got back from post office - my naval kyu-gunto(not dress!!!) finally arrived and i'm sitting happy like nabob
  18. Thank you! Yes, Vilnius, as one of the capitals of culture 2009 and Lithuania, having 1000 years anniversary, started very nice You are welcome to participate
  19. Hello everyone, sorry i noted this post only now. I've found this forum appr. one month ago and logging in almost daily since then as i found it fascinating - so many experts or collectors from all around the world. Although i'm more interested in kyu-gunto, some of blades are traditionally made and i'd be grateful to get consultation or feedback from esteemed members of this forum. Short summary about me: name: Vaidas age: 35 location: Lithuania interested in Japanese military edged weapons since 2007(baby to compared with some members of NMB )
