  1. being total lowborn by standards of Mariusz with my interest in kyu - gunto, i thank Stephen for his post
  2. any officers sword with batch or serial numbers are Chinese fakes. T95 could have unique serial number, no batch numbers.
  3. mine motif is quite faded - unfortunately i won't be able to make picture but its without hands - its very similar to fuchi on army shin guntoes.
  4. Most had textile string loops. I have one kai gunto , Tenzhosan made, with saru te - will post pictures within few hours
  5. i'm looking for such tassel, but really not for such price. I wouldn't hesitate to pay $1000 and consider 1200-1400, but this price is crazy
  6. i wouldn't mind to buy for that price myself:) with matched scabbard and in good condition such sword should cost $700-800 in US
  7. Just to add some details: NCO type 95, variation 3 - with iron tsuka. sword looks produced by Suya company under supervision of Tokyo arsenal scabbard mismatch and looks like been produced in Nagoya arsenal(that's a pity as value drops by couple of hundred bucks)
  8. its impossible to tell something about blade from this picture, but koshirae is definitely not kai gunto and looks like made in China. Mr. Jones, its not THAT hard to find on internet how kai gunto mounts supposed to look...
  9. just to add that the first looks like Type 19 dress sword company grade and the second is Type 19 dress sword field grade
  10. it is not related to Japanese military. it looks more to me like re-made non Japanese sword...
  11. looks nice grouping. The first three NCO's looks like Tokyo arsenal. What about the 4th? Tokyo? What about producers? Kai gunto - nihonto or arsenal blade?

    Showa Tanto?

i'll check Dowson's again, but i do not remember if he wrote anything about kyu-gunto for this period.

    Showa Tanto?

Here is tanto, attributed to Shimada school, in IJN dirk mounts, type 1883. It is custom made and therefore it is only possible to guess when it was made - during Meiji period or later. But still... Of course it is impossible to state that some exact swords were produced specially for Russo - Japanese war or the First Sino - Japanese conflict or for any other particular conflict, unless it is clearly stated on the sword or has other proof attached. I saw several kyu gunto, f.e. in type 8 mounts, with nihonto...

    Showa Tanto?

Don't believe there was a military mounting for tanto for that war. That didn't come until later. They were about westernizing at that point and the tanto was old school.... Hello Chris, why do you think military mounts were not possible for that period? Tanto in mounts of naval dirk seems very much possible.... Also, you still can find plenty of nihon-to in kyu-gunto mounts..
  15. where is possible to get more details about this fair? Date? website?
  16. Gentelmen, i apologize if this question is old like mother Earth and used like old tyre, but i couldn't find the answer in old posts I'm collecting nihonto in kyu and shin gunto koshirae. As my collection is expanding little by little question of how to keep tantoes, dirks, daggers. Some of them are nihonto, some showato, some for dress purposes. big stand "covers" the item itself, plus is place consuming. Maybe there are small stands, specialy designed for tantoes? if yes, link to inet shop or other sorces would be highly appreciated. thank you for your patience and help
  17. no need for that, everybody understands that its like John wrote
  18. well, Richard, you should be more accurate when stating about former Soviet Union. My country was one and although i'm currently only buying, it may happen, that i'll want to sell something in future and would hate to be rejected or called fake dealer only because of this sad historical fact however, you were partly right. I saw this guy from "Belarus" and laughed hard and long. Regulations in CIS for handling of any edged weapon, be it hunting knive or dress dagger are very strong. Import / export for person is close to impossible(official way) and nobody does that. So this guy from China should choose more carefully:):)
  19. Jason, i don't see any similarities between sword in e-bay and Japanese dress swords. With all due respect, i would like to suggest you not only to look but also study, at least basics, about Japanese military swords. This would help you to recognize at least obvious fakes and clearly non - Japanese swords. I myself started that way and it helped me very very much
  20. UNREAL!!! i LOVE Australian humour!!!!
  21. guys, this seller is.. mildly said,a bit crazy about prices. F.e. they posted order of The Sacred Treasure of 5th grade for $1500... roughly 10 times its real value...
  22. my pleasure. online translation is headache(i know from trying to translate from Japanese )
  23. yes, Brian, Nikolay asked what number 88 means and i wrote him that its assembly numbers
  24. my apologize for not putting translation: i wrote that anchor mark means the sword produced in Toyokawa Navy arsenal To Nic - e-mail sent. He wrote that he has another kai gunto and i offered to help translate his questions as on-line translator is a mess.
