  1. Thats like saying christmas presents arent nice! Anticipations half the fun of it! Promise to post some pics be they good or bad 😉
  2. George, it wasnt just the tip..full edge gone, youd be weeping if you saw it, thought it would be worth a stab a the price it went for but he omitted to add this major defect. Ive seen a few of these aussie souvenired blades where they return home and grind the edge down so little johny does fillet his sister. If your in the area pop in as picked up a dozen Japanese and australian swords out of boulder that habent seen the light of day in 40years, still covered in grease and dust as havent had the chance to clean yet (still no scabbard yet though)
  3. Bloody awful auction house with their continual postponing and poor listings as they failed to point out that the blade wasnt " in good condition with slightly rounded point" as per description. Condition was actually full edge ground off/removed. Breaks your heart. Whoever they paid to to their final listing did a crap job.
  4. Double lock visible in this shot plus damage to lock clasp plus handle missing menuki
  5. And yes double lock but the catch of the press lock has snapped off
  6. Yep serial # and dated
  7. New purchase has semi star stamp to tang, traditionally forged?
  8. Haha , i though the same thing when i saw the kind translation, " Must be President Taft!!!". Thankyou gentlemen for the translation and mystery solution as to what it is. Its a quiver! My wife thought it must be a PNG penis sheath but guess shes spoilt😉 Best to all Pippo
  9. Actually bought this along with 3 Japanese swords so hoping its a sword storage container( none of the swords fitted) but probaby just for fishing poles. Nice piece whatever its for and hoping thrle characters on the outside might shed some light. Any help appreciated. Cheers
  10. Thanks very much, found alittle bit about the vice admiral on the internet, just his comission date. Bit odd that theres no mention of rank on the tag makes me think its not a surrender tag even though it has a " return address" but cant think what else it could be that hed not have his military title on it? Thanks again.
  11. Naval parade sword, tagged with what i gathering is a surrender tag? Any help appreciated.
  12. Wonderful! Thank you so much gentlemen🧎
  13. This walking stick? Riding crop head came with a cavalry uniform recently purchased so im hoping its period correct. If someone could help with translation/ identification that would be wonderful
  14. Probably should have come here 1st, thoughts on this signed blade, bruce was kind enough to find other example, mines last in row (#4) and signature seems a bit primitive 🤷 . Sany thoughts on signature legitimacy or how to get it verified greatly appreciated
  15. Yep might try and source a better vacuum to get this dust on the material underneath up and trying to keep everything intact, no rust on this due to the very dry storage but that's made some of the string fibre joins very fragile
  16. Okay now im really confused as to the blade, real, fake, anyone suggest how best to proceed 🤷
  17. Yes , ive doubts on signature as didnt seem quite right so love to here other opinions on authenticity
  18. Back is predust, front post dust off. The dust is quite fine. Im using ww1 army officers clothes brushes to remove dust but any thoughts on final removal of dust, just a soft cloth and patience??
  19. Opened after 40 years in a box in the gold mining town of boulder, hence the fine powder red dust. Ill start gently cleaning with soft brush to remove dust. Luckily areas very dry so hopefully no major damage.
  20. No mine , worse luck but a friends dad and hasnt seen the light of day for 40 years, any help appreciated
  21. Yes, its a new purchase and asked the question about tsuba in the tosogu section as it just didnt seem right, not chinese copy but also not in keeping with the sword. The blade itself is quite straight so thought it might be older but from signature translation is 20th c. Cheers, Pippo
  22. Thanks for this, yes it looked not chinese copy cheap but not quite right, have 2 military tsuba i could swap out so aslong as its not something special ill swap over. Cheers Pippo
  23. Thank you gentlemen
