Thanks Ray! The search is on to try and find this Smith.

Help on this mei and date please. Pictures aren't good but this is the best I have received. Thanks.

Why did this sell so expensive?
Logan09 replied to TheGermanBastard's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
There is really no risk for the buyer on eBay. I have seen several swords sell for a lot only to be relisted later down the road(returned to seller) -
Isopropyl Alcohol.

What about Kuro-shibuichi as well. I have seen blueish/green "Shakudo" on a a very rusty/worn Tsuba(mimicing tree tops) that I don't know how it held up, the typical black and almost a deep midnight purple. You say ignoring the Shakudo quality, are you referring to the gold content? From what I know the color of Shakudo is created chemically, and the color it turns is dependent alot upon the ratio of gold/copper and or other materials used.

Thanks for chiming in Ray. Am I to assume this is a good quality Wakizashi if legit? It will be a first for me. Haha

I agree with you. I have limited knowledge but I to thought it was strange

Thanks Jussi! Much appreciated. Upon looking at it in person you're correct. It appears there are several generations of this Smith. But blade is in much to poor of polish to find out which.

Picked up a Wakizashi, was told it wasn't signed but to my surprise there was a Mei(a little worn away) hidden partially by the habaki and under grime. Mekugi Ana also doesn't appear to be drilled so perhaps older than I thought. Thanks in advance. -Logan-

There are a lot of reproductions coming out of Japan. Also of menuki and tsuba. At lease "some" of the sellers say they're modern.
-
I thought they were Ho-o. But flying rooster is a possibility now..haha
-
Picked these Menuki up. Seller thought they were Ko-Kinko. I know nothing about Menuki, but I needed a pair and they were at what I think was a decent price. They look much better in person, and either way I am pleased with them. Thoughts?

Documentary Video on Returning WW2 Sword

Thanks for posting Dan. Haven't heard about this, going to give it a watch when I get a chance. -
Thanks for the reply Robert. It was in response to Steve's comment on having it "conservatively" polished. Which I took as a polish to make it look "Good" but not a professional polish which should have no problem taking the pits out and not leaving marks behind but would cost significantly more.
-
Thanks for the replies. It does look Mino, can't pinpoint the Smith though as I haven't seen the 2-3 peaks pattern yet in my search. I have no doubt there will still be pitting left if it were polished. But I do like the blade, I guess I will have to think of it.

I had more written JP, but was editing through it and hit the post button. It's kind of a pain on the phone. I edited it again but didn't feel like re-writing everything and trying to lookup the correct terminology

Thanks for the reply geraint. I figured as much, there is also some pitting in the blade which is a shame. The blade is hefty also, it only weighs maybe 1-3oz less than my 5 katana blades. The blade is razor sharp, but not about an inch up from the hamachi. So I'm thinking it might still be on its first polish? Also, you can see the mounts here:http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/28672-translation-help-on-kashira-and-fuchi-photos-added-427-whose-up-for-a-challenge/ , you're correct in that the fuchi has writing on it. I can not get a good enough photo to have it translated.

Picked up this Wakizashi. I am thinking of getting it polished but was wondering if it might be worth it(as I know it's going to cost a lot) I am thinking it's an Edo Wakizashi. I had to do a lot of editing to get the hamon to show up in photos, that's why they're black and white. Hamon is only visible in the sun and I can't photo it. Nagasa is 19-15/16" Sori is 5/8" Overall is 24-7/8" Thanks. -Logan-

There's 2 listings on eBay for some right now. I glanced by them, as I always figured they were a kind of "fantasy" item.
-
After looking at them more closely, yes all the other circles are missing inlay. It also does appear there are smaller "petals" above the big ones. Thanks for all the replies.

USPS lost a Wakizashi I bought 3 weeks+ ago. This was in the U.S. It still says it's "In transit to destination" good luck, hope you get it. -
Haha, thanks for the chuckle TomC. But, you're correct.
