  1. There is a reference to torjiru in Kapps book "The Craft of the Japanese Sword"....rubbing two pieces of uchigumori together and used with prepaired hazuya to aid in starting the polish on a sword.In discussion with a Japanese friend what the term meant it was that simple ....Juice.

  8. Had this for a while,think this smith(KaneMune) is associated with AmaHide,clearly hada but oil quenched,I always assumed it was barstock.

  10. According to Fuller&Gregorys there is a variety of stainless(rust resistant) blade that has a selectively heat treated edge(hamon)I have seen only two of them in 34 years.

The typical "wax" used on a shirasaya is Ibota,the same material used in mikagi(burnishing)described as the waxy excretion of a variety of cicada.It is rubbed on briskly after applied with a soft cloth and a bit of pressure.The sayagaki (if traditional ink is used)will probably not survive this.Just best off storing it safely as others have said.

  15. Any pics of the blade?Most of the swords ive either owned or seen by him are oil tempered but folded and have some interesting hada.

  18. I remember someone saying something about black nail polish for chips a while back.I know a popular sayashi that uses piano lacquer.
