  1. 魚定 ???... a bit fishy!!! :? ... just had dejavu about this post!!! edit.... 兼定 if this is what you are talking about I still have big problems spotting kane..... in this form anyway
  2. Caveat Vendor.... yes!!! Caveat Emptor.... "Let the buyer beware" i.e. generally (these days) refers to private sales between two people.... you buy it at completely your own risk..... can't complain if it is piece of junk... unless it has been totally mis-represented, that is... otherwise legally speaking the onus is on the buyer to take all necessary precautions and due dilligence, to protect him/her self when buying said piece of junk.. cheers!
  3. Alan, I really think you need to find a new storage method for your swords, mate.... Standing them up with the weight of the sword on the kissaki down on the floor, makes me feel sick! Cheers!!
  4. When did you grow that Mustache? ... or deal with it by drinking 47 flasks of nihonshu with my favorite German nutter! cheers!
  5. Why they have to hold the DTI during my busiest week of the year, beats me!!! With at least 3 or 4 months per year in Japan, I will never get to go to this event!!! Great pics Bri... thanks for sharing! Cheers!
  6. Doesn't this style of listing remind you of a dealers website..? there is a clue to who is listing this.... I haven't had direct dealings, but as far as I know, I think Danny is as honest and reputable as they come... this listing demonstrates this perfectly... Cheers!
  7. seen plenty of them in the tourist shops around Asakusa too.... cheers
  8. Roger that Bug's.... however my point being that, in the modern world anyway, it seems that people recognize that kanji as "zui" only... Just showed it to someone else... "what is this?" sez I... "zui." sez he... "what else could it be?" sez I... "buggered if I know." sez him.... by the way he is Japanese... that last remark by him shows he has been hanging around with this limey twit for too long.... anyway maybe it is an age thing... these test subjects were both sub 40 yrs... Apart from all of this... this mei (gimei or not) says HAMANO SHOZUI + kao. By the way does anyone have any examples of Shozui's earlier art name? (OTSURYUKEN) MIBOKU 味墨 cheers! edit... forgot this post by Deron.... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1719
  9. yes..... see the examples posted by Pete Klein on this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4023&p=30227&hilit=shozui#p30227 政 随 the kanji issue Only way I can get the "sho" character is by typing "seiji" .... zui kanji come sup by typing "zui", can't get it typing "yuki" Out of interest, my wife reads this a SHOZUI not masayuki... she reads the first kanji as "sho" but can read "masa" too .... she reads the second kanji as only "zui", not "yuki" Cheers
  10. ... however why would anyone forge Shozui and make it more questionable by including Kao.... unless he used a kao that is... which would make it reasonable that a forger would include it.... .... down that road, madness lies! cheers
  11. Yes Masayuki aka Shozui.... well done Brian... Have not seen much from him with kao though... any more examples of Shozui with Kao?? Cheers!
  12. Not 'soap land' flu, I hope.... told you to stay away from Asakusa, Bri... Have fun.... sorry I missed all of you... I'll be back in the Spring.... Cheers!
  13. Thanks Moriyama san!
  14. this mei on a modern kitchen knife is YAMA MASA???? Or are we working on a different combination? Yama 山 Masa 正 Bettsu?? 別 ??? Last Kanji I have no clue..... any ideas?? Thanks in advance

Grrrrrr Hate you Henry!!!! Next time I am in town, I am going to get you drunk and nick it off of you!! by the way it looks good to me.... PK put some examples up on another thread the other week... very nice...
  16. Caveat Emptor matey! Mike listed the swords and showed close ups of the flaws. He correctly translated the Bishu on the mei. He offered a reasonable return policy, and he will honour those policies as far as I have known him, but otherwise what you see is what you get. You should be more angry at yourself, than angry at Mike! Cheers!!
  17. Yabai !!!!! I asked my wife about Sato, and she told me I was an idiot!!
  18. Yum Yum... my favorite!!! but no idea if it is gen'
  19. wait up... isn't the first character sakana (uo) éš seems a bit fishy to me!!
  20. no idea...... ... it is the two marks to the right of the second character that get me..... å…¼ ç ” kaneaki å…¼ 弘 kanehiro å…¼ 舛 kanemasu å…¼ æ¦ kanetake
  21. I stand well corrected.... :D good post Markus and thanks Moriyama san!! Cheers!
  22. I don't believe so, but I could be entirely wrong.... cheers
  23. The third and fourth character is in my opinion definitely 完 and æ — as Moriyama san says. I would suggest that å® and 粟 is out of the question based on the 'hand writing' character on the nakano.... cheers
  24. Nach dem Siege binde dir den Helm fester. After the victory you are bound to the helmet more firmly... or the helmet binds firmer to you... Guido???????
  25. Can you show us the whole blade without handle and habaki? Looks a little suspicious to me, not necessarily a fake, but maybe tampered with.... the pictures are not very sharp so I could be totally wrong... The horimono does not look crisp or well done at all (pictures?) and the kanji on the blade looke a little 'fresh'.... not sure what the first Kanji is but the second is: ä½ã€€- sumu or ä½ã€€- juu Is the cutting edge dinged?? or is that just another low quality picture? Seems it could be originally a longer sword cut down (shinogi is present), but we would need better pictures and to be able to see the nakano too.... Koshirae seems OK... My best guess.... longer wakazashi cut down, and someone (far from professional) has tried to glam it up with horimono and kanji... however I most probably am quite wrong! Cheers
