Hi gents! I stumbled across this nihonto blade and got a bit curious. I am a novice in this field for sure, so forgive me if it is obvious, but I haven't seen the type of blade decoration shown on this katana. It looks like an inlay to imitate a hamon, or is it really a very sharp hamon? Looks weird in that case. I was also intrigued by shape, looking like a late kamakura if I have to pick one off the reference chart and with only one peg hole. I hope you guys can enlighten me further. Best regards Alex
  3. Sorry, didn't read thorough enough. Looks really good. Best regards Alex
  4. Hi! Who is the maker of the blade? Best regards Alex
  5. Thank you for clarifying Bruce! Best regards Alex
  6. Ok! Then it sounds like quite a price for provenance.. Interesting! Where are the big flaws located on the blade? Haha and I am just an unpaid intern in this comparison- didn't even see the flaws.. But such an interesting collecting field. In here every day atm trying to read up!:) Best regards Alex
  7. Thank you very much for your thoughts! Ok so from the images it might suggest an older blade but in a so-so polish? No he specializes and is probably one of the best in the field of ss helmets- thats why I wanted you guys opinion. Either way it is already sold but looked nice and therefore I was curios what quality the lot actually had:) Best regards Alex
  8. Saw now that it is of course a kai gunto.. geez I really need to read more on this subject. Anyways still interested if anyone has opinions on the blade quality:) Best Alex
  9. Hi guys, Don't know if anyone here got this grouping but it seems like two quality pieces. Just started my journey in learning about this subject- but to me it looks like a type 94 with a rarer pattern "rising sun" tsuba. Also the blade looks very nice. What do you experienced collectors think, can one tell from these images the quality of the blade? 10. Hi Bruce, Thank you for clearing up the information about the sword, then it seems the descriptoion was a bit off and at least as far as I have seen - wah to pricy. That sounds more apropriate, will post there as well - thanks again! Br Alex
  11. Hi gents! I am new to the forum and to this collecting genre in general. I have always been fascinated by the craftmanship in the Japanese swords in general, but combined with my interest in ww2 it has been guided to the field of shin guntos. I collect mainly ww2 german and swedish militaria but I am now hoping to add at least one shin gunto to this collection (if I know myself there will be more..). I am looking for a shin gunto with ancestoral gendaito in good condition. I found this ( https://www.catawiki.com/sv/l/32184421-Japan-signed-arsenal-autentic-seki-ju-kawamura-kaneri-arsenal-Japanese-samurai-sword-ww2-ija-shin-gunto-army-katana-imperial-army-with-tassel-katana-svard) now for sale again on a swedish site, but as far as I can tell from the description this is a shawato made pre war? But then is there any reason for it being this expensive that I am missing? Also do you have any good reputable dealers that might help me find what I am looking for (preferably in europe)? Thank you for all the help in advance! Best regards Alex
