  1. Paper showing Gendai, though old paper it does show there is no stamp nor one removed from what I can see in hand. It’s quite something
  2. Here are some more pics I took before out of town. Thank you for the replies
  3. Good morning, I am looking at an Amahide Showato blade from a nice Type 98 setup without signs of an arsenal stamp. I have read about the differences in the types of steels used; folded, partial folded, water quench vs oil quench. I am wondering if this is a version of the Han tanren abura yaki-ire-to that I have been reading about. This hamon is very active and there is a lot in the hada, though it does appear this blade is oil quenched. Please give some thoughts. Btw this sword has some nbthk papers from way back
  4. You will need to get it apart, taking the tsuka (handle) off and showing the nakagao (tang) hope to see pics soon
  5. Hi again, there are some nice cases out there for displaying a sword that are sealed against humidity and dust. They are in no way cheap but are incredibly nice. I believe there is a Japanese member on here who makes very classy cases so maybe someone knows him or you can search this site for his comments and then contact him. You may be able to google his work too 😉
  6. Might be YoshiNori. Looks like a standard Type 98 Gunto. Not sure about the blade..looks like a usual Showato however hard to say in these pics
  7. That’s a neat looking stand you made. Most people do not display the blade openly in this way as it collects dust and grime which is then transferred into the saya, which then scratches the blade, but if you’re happy with that then do it!
  8. Not much to tell yet. Please use patience with the stickers on the handle, they are definitely a bad placement. From what is shown, it does not appear to be fake (although the blade may be) but you will have to disassemble it and show the tang of the blade to get more answers. The guard “tsuba” is an unusual piece and very large. More pics of that too for more opinions. you have come to the right place as more people will comment with better knowledge
  9. Idk but it having a date is unusual having come from that particular seller who is known for his “questionable” blades. I lean to it looks good and my even be legit but more research is in order. Taking it to someone more seasoned, or even better is a sword club” would be the next step. “In hand” is the only way regards
  10. I can add measurements if needed. Thanks
  11. Hello again, got these three pieces with their blades. Please, any info is helpful. I believe the one catfish one is signed Norimitsu(?). The older piece with the scholars on it appears to have different colors of metals including silver and gold (I think Regards
  12. Good day again to everyone. Please help me with some info about this menuki pair. They came from a yard sale. Thank you in advance for the knowledge
  13. Grey, thank you for replying, kind Sir. I definitely wasn’t thinking this was Japanese but I do think that it is vintage and does appear so. The fella I bought it from said it was his fathers who was stationed in HK. I also believe that the ornaments were recycled older pieces and applied to this. I believe the blade is something like a tsunagi and although it may have been meant to “fool a G.I.” it is definitely a heavy piece and has considerable dust and dirt. I fully understand everyone may not like this type of thing but I am appreciating it for what it is…a cool old junk souvenir from an age gone by. Regards
  14. Good day everyone, was out shopping some yard sales and came across this piece. Seems like a lot of work out into it as a souvenir but really nicely presented, imo. Any thoughts or opinion would be welcome. I’m enjoying looking at it and the craftsmanship of the little appliqués that appear to be menuki-type of pieces. Regards
  15. Modern and monosteel. Not an antique
  16. KaneShige?
  17. Hi you all I am wondering why these type of oil quenched Showato tanto are made. What purpose are they for, mainly. Some are really crappy made but this one is signed and the nakago is finished with yasurimei. V
  18. Yes I would be interested to see what you’re offering. Thank you
  19. Hello again, where is this shipping from? Is it in Japan? Thank you
  20. This item has been recovered and delivered, well received in good order. Thankful 🙏
  21. If it’s in Japan, why doesn’t it have papers? Can it get papers while it’s there if you get it?? These are the questions to ask before a purchase of a sword that’s still in Japan.
  22. Hi, is this available and where is it located or shipped from? Thanks
  23. I would interested to see the hamachi area where the hamon starts…this deep sori is usually a result of saiha(?) maybe
  24. Yes sir i understand you. My initial start with this was through these same pictures sent to Ray Singer. He said to look toward Kashu Kagemitsu, that this may also, as an alternative to the Mino thinkers, that it may be the earlier possible 1st Gen. Kagemitsu based on his, Ray’s, understanding of these two snippets of info I have attached. He wasn’t disputing anything. Just giving me a direction to work. This is what I am seeking to find out why and how it isn’t just a 1560’s Mino and may be this other. This is just something I have been pursuing as a hobby. Thank you for the info and all in advance.
  25. Okay thank you for that. I would very much appreciate what easily described features make that opinion. This ofc would be another vote for Mino so I want to investigate for my own forward appreciation of it. thank you!
