I am so far still not finding much except: 1) using the nashiji-zogan technique in this way are Omori, Kumagai, and Goto. 2) Kaga does use these little windows (clouds) shapes but usually have regular inlay. Goto almost always has the nanakoji background somewhere on the piece. so still at a loss for study but having a good time 😉

Thank you! Yes I haven’t found anything yet, but still scouring my book resources which takes so much time 🧐 grateful for all help

Good morning, astute thinkers. I recently acquired a nice wakizashi with these F/K I am not sure of course so here I am: I believe most of these are referred as Mito or Omori Waves. these are not signed so not super high quality but any other info, leads, and thoughts would be helpful to narrow down the school and look for study pieces to compare. Respectfully Ron

No silver on the mountain, only old iron. The black moon does appear to be laquered tho, and the gold flecks are just gold flakes, maybe pilgrims 🧐

Good morning to you all, please look at this tsuba I received with a wakizashi. It’s 64x61mm, 4mm thick at edge but about 4.4mm at seppa-dai. Same scene on both sides pretty much, gold fleck objects on landscape, but one side the moon is silver and one side is black lacquer. All thoughts are welcomed. Regards

I’ve got a few if you want to message me privately. Regards

Hi and thank you. The measurements are 67x63mm. Regards
-
John it looks like it may be glue residue or some kind of adhesive.

Good morning to you all, please offer any opinions on this tsuba I received from my student. It came on a katana. It has no kozuka-ana so interested to know why. Respectfully Ron

Much appreciated for the info. Regards to all

Good morning to you all. Please provide feedback. I was thinking it was “old”, meaning not modern, then got it and the thought maybe modern, then examined to find filing on the rim BUT also in the Kozuka-ana where it was cleaned up by hand. thank you in advance

This would fit nicely with my military swords collection 😉

Hi Ben, I know this is an old thread but do you still have the tachi menuki tie clip?? Thanks
-
You are correct. With a small tsuba it’s called Hamidashi

Greeting to you all, I am looking for your opinions on these two tsuba I have. Some have seen these. Thank you Measurements for #1: 67x63mm, very thick, dark color Measurements for #2: 65x60mm, thin, chocolate color

Pics of nakago, no indentation present to indicate a stamp was ever applied. Also, my opinion is he was right handed, by looking at the file marks on the right half of each side. Lol
-
This sword has NO acid applied. I can testify to this. Traditional style polish with stones done during a Batto class instructional I taught. This is the SAME sword from my prior post. I appreciate you guys for replying also. Be home soon to show nakago better
-
Thanks Stephen. I understand your view. i will post the nakago pics in a few hours to show it has ZERO signs of having a stamp ever. I have his sons blade also with a stamp removed and it’s obvious. I have scoured looking at his Gendai and they all have the dark peaks on the hamon leading my thinking. Also, I’m interested to see ANY oil quench with this type of activity clearly present as I have seen none like this. I have seen several acid polishes and they all “feel” lumpy under the cotton swab but this DOES NOT and is smooth as glass. I’m not trying to convince anyone else, only myself. This blade is a beauty and fits perfectly with my Gendai star blades. Be back soon! Thank you again

Good morning folks, came across this, purchased it as a regular Type 98 mounted Gunto, and immediately felt it was unusual and special. I collect military swords and this is an Amahide blade, the papers are old as seen, but I don’t think it was a “bought paper” for a Showato. (There is no change in thickness on the nakago where they scoured out a stamp.) Bearing that in mind, I have also included here, with pics of this blade and paper, a pic of what a Gendaito by Amahide has for Jigane and Hamon. This looks similar in my opinion. Thank you for looking!
-
Neil, did you ever get an answer on your ichimonji amahide question about your particular sword? I have a forged amahide signed “ichimonji minamoto amahide kin kitae kore”

Ray, this is the sword I showed you a few months back that you believed to be Showa era and I agreed. The seller relisted it in the exact same way stating it was an older piece. The seller is also a knowledgeable person on NMB and it’s a shame he still is selling as an older blade.
-
Just fyi, I actually purchased this sword then sent it back (I can show you proof if needed though I’m not trying to hurt the seller). Not due to flaws or a bad seller but because the pictures did not show all of the scuffing that is actually on the blade. You could not see any of the hada and barely the hamon in hand. The pics don’t show this and it looks really clean IN THE PICS but if you look carefully you can see the swirls hiding in plain site. It is going to need a polish immediately and isn’t a study piece as is. A good sword but will need investment so be aware.
