Bishu Osafune Ju Sukesada. Not much to see except nice fittings if cleaned up but looks legit -ish. What’s the cutting edge length (Nagasa)?

I have a similar one to yours. I posted this on here before and the lovely Ford Hallam commented that he thought it was muromachi and slightly cut down form it’s original size regards

Hi to you, It is my humble opinion that this hamon is supposed to represent the “Muramasa Mino style” that is seen A LOT on gunto and many nihonto. Whether or not it’s nihonto or not I cannot say, but feel free to look up Muramasa hamon, and you’ll see sometimes this exact 3 choji-2 choji-2 choji-3 choji etc etc or similar pattern but in togari types or mixed. regards

I have several. It does appear to be an intact version of the “patrolman’s furnishings”

Idk what you see but this is a pic of what I think OGi-ba looks like, this on one of my Mumei blades. There are three here, left, right and center, and they look like a kabuto

Hi again, I have spent tooooo much time researching but I did find this piece and the statement from Robert Haynes says a lot. See attached (I hope I have permission to use this pic)

I have read your file on Yoshiro tsuba. I think this has the Heianjo/Yoshiro look and feel. If you have any feedback about this “feel” I have then let me know please. respectfully yours

I’d buy it right now 😁

It is not a Japanese made sword, imo. The writing is not the kind you would see on an authentic piece, it is a poor imitation.
-
Does anyone have any ideas as to the maker or school of creation for this piece? It had to have been made this way from the beginning. It doesn’t appear to be modified “from” something. I agree the side Ana were added later, but…. any other thoughts? regards
-
There are many variations, and some amazing pieces made as well. Lots of commissioned pieces signed by smiths for private sale. They are out there!

IMHO You are correct, I believe. My Batto Sensei says It appears that this was set up as a Kobusho koshirae, and probably used as you say. This samurai probably inherited it from a teacher or someone very astute in swordsmanship with this nakago ana placed as such.

As a retired military Explosives Expert, and a martial arts academy owner, my dojo is located literally right outside the Joint Expeditionary Base, I hear dozens and dozens of stories about “combat” this or that. It’s amazing that I almost never meet the Cook! But, I have personally given as a gift a nice “G.I. Field conversion” knife, made from a broken wakizashi recovered on Tarawa and taken home, to my Sensei who is a retired US Marine. He has it displayed at his academy in Oklahoma.

Good afternoon, a friend of mine (I will not out him as he clearly does not know) displayed this sword and stated “this was taken off of a Japanese soldier in Iwo Jima. I almost believed it until I zoomed in. Why do people believe this crap?!? It’s clearly NOT a Japanese sword, however the story was believed and my friend still feels the piece “has so much history” that I just can’t say anything. I love this dudes show, but you guys have to see 😁

Show me under her panties! Well, habaki I mean

The last pic of this saya above shows the back of the hole that you can “see through” in pic 2 (below attached, you can see the church leg rail through it) so that one pretty sure is a round. “Slug still in” statement above is assumed. It could be anything
-
Hey guys I have a gunto saya that definitely was hit several times. Pic 3 shows the slug still in that hole. Check it out

Hira zukuri wakizashi, Mumei obviously due to I assume O-suriage, Nagasa is 54cm. Ray Singer believes Muromachi Soshu possibly

Good afternoon to you all, I understand this tsuba is not in any condition of good but wanted any info you may have. Looks to be missing pretty much all of the zogan, and the mon seem to be missing. Looking at it seems to be that it was a solid plate with the carvings of the tack and then the Ana were added at a later date. Comes on a large katana with kiri style mon menuki. size is 77mm pretty much all around. Respectfully Ron

General Officer’s Sword Translation Help

From the pics…I feel like the same may be artificial, the seppa are replacements, the tassel doesn’t look authentic, and the mei is the Showato style…imo a Franken-sword -
On these types of auctions, where they don’t let you bid if you’re out of the country, how do different countries win these? Do they have someone local who gets it shipped to them and then they ship to the winner?? I’m just curious what the approach is. Thank you

Thank you! Interesting to note the source

Does anyone know where Eric obtained this info from? Thank you for any help
