    I can assure you that a soldier wasn't "wearing" this sword. Also the sageo(cord) is tied in samurai fashion. Nice fittings, late edo tsuba. Koshirae seems broken. But I would gamble this if I was living in the states..

    I might be wrong but this looks gimei to me. If you have the sword in hand please compare these two signatures. A bit hard for me to see from the picture. @Ray Singer would know better.

    You really shouldn't do that George Without seeing the whole package it's just guessing and it's not a healthy way to train your eyes. In your case, the picture doesn't really show anything..It might as well be a shinshinto or gendaito..

    Great find Parry..let me read that..Masaaaa mune....yup...not gimei... Great looking sword by the way, it even have two m&m holes. And if you can only share the pictures of rest of the blade we can all officially announce that you have the real deal.

    Ok I think I solved it. Not %100 certain but this has something to do with Banzuke. (ranking list) East and West division...I circled Tadamasa with red on attached photo.
